Pros
Excellent career advancement opportunities and ability to work on exciting Federal government programs.
Cons
There have been no negative cons that I have experienced in my time with the Cherokee Nation. I have been thrilled with the direction of my career.

Pros
Working with some great people that haven't left yet.
Cons
Toxic workplace culture. Unqualified managers that remain in place because they happen to be Cherokee. Emphasis is given to securing new projects. Once awarded no one cares how they are administered. No support from corporate, no adequate staff, and no respect for employees.

There’s a reason why all these reviews mention poor management...
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
“Good”, i.e. competitive benefits and quarterly bonuses.
Cons
Management is inept and unqualified. Pay rate is below market. Management will not promote if you’re not Cherokee, but family and friends are hired for positions they’re not qualified for, nepotism is rampant. Managers refuse to give annual reviews, and will take credit for your work and ideas. Company does not deliver on benefits and policies they advertise openly such as maternity leave. Do not expect to take a vacation or leave of any kind- you must be on call and work at all times, even in entry level positions. Managers will take flex time but not permit employees to do the same, while requiring overtime/nights and weekends. Work environment is openly hostile.

Pros
Cherokee Nation Business is a great place to work and with good people.
Cons
From my experience working with CNB for 4 years they do not hire within the company in Oklahoma, but they do in Colorado.

Pros
As a government contractor, employees are compensated for work done. Great people. Highly dedicated, capable , hard workers. Mission oriented. It is a family oriented environment and most people appear happy but also depends on the leadership.
Cons
Typical ups and downs of government bureaucracy. You don't have as many advancement opportunities. You see government leadership and personnel more than you see or communicate with Cherokee Nations leadership

Pros
Cherokee fights for employees time and again, even when it does not benefit directly from doing so.
Cons
Contract uncertainty, contract bridges and extensions, tension between Federal employees and contract employees

Pros
The 401k is pretty good. There is no vesting period.
Cons
Cherokee has a self-funded health insurance plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Unfortunately, you cannot use the BCBS website or customer service numbers as all interaction has to go through a company named HealthSmart. HealthSmart's real service is "risk-management", which means their job is to make it difficult for you to access your health insurance benefits.
