I worked at Cherry Bekaert full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are genuinely nice and at least pretend to care about you and your well-being.

    Cons

Training is not that great. The firm does provide firm-wide training twice a year up until a certain level. Outside of firm training, individual offices are responsible for providing their staff with appropriate training to help them navigate through levels. However, certain offices don't try to help and expect you to do everything on your own. The APA process is another thing that needs work, feedback should be 360 degrees. I've seen several staff get burned by seniors/managers for something they did and it's not fair.

    Advice to Management

While the firm is growing, an investment in people is a must. Professionals need more training outside of Audit U. There needs to be training for different sectors and not done on a webcast. Management need to hold partners in individual offices responsible for the lack of training done in their offices. Consider having training done by outside professionals rather than internal people. Sometimes it just doesn't work to have people inside train when they all are learning things incorrectly.

I worked at Cherry Bekaert full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, flexibility to move throughout departments to build skills/advance if desired. Ability to be compensated well for hard work if you find someone in management who will go to bat for you. Definitely potential to be an amazing place to work and I think they're well on their way there since seeking consulting help and implementing some great changes.

    Cons

Richmond branch office not very well managed (though I saw some improvements beginning to happen when I left); understaffing a major issue (same - have heard it has improved), lots of overtime because of this. Hard to become confident in any of my 4 (administrative) positions there because I never received much, if any, training and never had time to learn things well due to extreme workload.

    Advice to Management

Continue improving on apprenticeship model. Encourage and equip managers and partners to truly work together rather than build their own "empire" by providing them appropriate amount of staff and holding them accountable to "one firm"/standard best practices.

I worked at Cherry Bekaert full-time

    Pros

Pay is industry competitive. Work hard, play hard culture. Good, albeit young main workforce. Not too bad when slow.

    Cons

Not the best benefits (i.e. small 401K match, expensive health insurance). Out of town travel. Some periods with LONG hours and tight deadlines / budget pressures.

    Pros

Secure job since there is so much turnaround they won't fire anyone. Located in Coral Gables. Plenty of room for new hires.

    Cons

Underpaid compared to same size firms. Seniors have left because the offers have been so much higher at different firms. Clients are charged very little which puts pressure on employees to meet unrealistic budgets. Health insurance is outrageous. They make you pay for parking. Annual training is not worth it. They don't give allowance to all staff for dinners (audit department).

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as you are currently treated. Improve benefits and compensation. It is not in line with other firms. No matter how many times you say it's within range it doesn't make it accurate.

I have been working at Cherry Bekaert full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great job path projection. On track for a partnership. The firm has revamped the leadership program and leaders are now identified at all levels. If you work hard and excel, you will be recognized. The Atlanta office has a great work environment and the office is the nicest one in the firm. It is open and bright and set up well for collaboration.

    Cons

Leadership continues to improve to show a united front but it still needs work. When actions need to be taken, sometimes leadership tends to drag their feet which can hurt their image with the newer staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop turning a blind eye to some of the issues in certain offices. Make a plan and stick to it so all offices are more consistent so the One Firm concept continues to become a reality.
