    Pros

    Fulfilling, exciting work and travel

    Cons

Buyout by Added Value and its behemoth parent company caused a respected boutique firm to lose some of its added value.

    Advice to Management

Communicate expectations more clearly, particularly across divisions and locations.

  3. "I was an employee back in the 90's when it was Cheskin Research and there were a number of Pro's and Con's."

    Pros

    - Small company so your voice is heard.
    - Great co-workers to work with who were very bright and had years of experience in market research.
    - Fortune 500 clients like Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Kraft, Microsoft, etc. were good to work for and had a number of interesting projects.

    Cons

    - Salary was well below competitors and this started a max-exodus around 1997 when almost 1/2 of the employees left during the next 12 to 18 months.
    - Management felt they were a little holier than though and a bit condescending, especially when it came to pay raises.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people what they're worth and they won't leave!

    Pros

Soon to be integrated into Added Value (more opportunity, much better top-level leadership)
    Good reputation brings great projects
    Intellectual challenge
Relatively easy politics at lower levels
    Some very cool people

    Cons

Lack of transparency re: management decisions
Lack of vision at the top
Account team not accountable to project teams in any way--recipe for resentment
Unrealistic expectations of individual contribution and myopic view of self (management breeds burnout while thinking of self as warm and fuzzy)
    Sacrifice often requested, seldom rewarded

    Advice to Management

Integrate project and biz dev functions

I worked at Cheskin Added Value full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Intellectually driven projects and nice location. Culture and Values where great until Cheskin got acquired by Added Value. It all depends on the team and people that you get to work with.

    Cons

Constant fear of quarter results made most people flee the company back then (before getting laid off)
