I have been working at Chevo Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for a small company like Chevo, gave me great opportunities to be engaged in different areas of business, gain experience in a variety of areas and truly build an impressive resume.
Chevo's management, to a great extent, cares about its employees’ wellbeing and provides flexibility in work arrangements, lets its employees to use time off when needed, provides a great benefit package, and good pay.
Chevo’s President and CEO (the owners) are very pleasant and nice people to work for and meet employees’ suggestions and ideas with an open mind. If your idea is a good one, it will be implemented in Chevo’s practices. Both Owners give employees space to do their job without hovering over their shoulders.
It is a perfect company to work for in all respects!

    Cons

Do not really have any Cons.

    Advice to Management

Hire a Business Development person to help with business growth.

I have been working at Chevo Consulting (More than 8 years)

    Pros

High-quality, competent employees make great teammates. Company is loyal to its employees, and provides good benefits and compensation. Opportunity to learn much from the experienced staff. President is approachable and friendly, if a bit shy.

    Cons

Fewer contract opportunities have been available and so a very narrow range of work is available, most within investment management and moreso staff augmentation. Limited room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire a business development VP in order to capture more business and broaden the portfolio of work. Could also be more hands on with the individual projects - not much, maybe a bi-monthly check in of some sort.

I worked at Chevo Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Chevo had an outstanding management philosophy which they aggressively adhered to throughout my tenure. The company's size (approximately 50 employees at the time) allowed me to perform multiple roles; gaining valuable experience and broadening my skill sets.

    Cons

The company's size (approximately 50 employees at the time) placed some constraints on long term career advancement within the company.

"Limited opportunity. Leadership is only interested in numbers and ratings"

I worked at Chevo Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you don't want to work hard or learn, then you can work here and sit back. If you want to stay in the same position for years, then stay here. If you like to stay under the radar and be ignored by leadership, then this is the place for you.

    Cons

The leadership focuses on getting star ratings from customers without pleasing Chevo employees. Phil, the owner is not a people person and is afraid of his employees. Every year, he gives the same annual company presentation with the same jokes. Phil will not involve his employees in new contract development. He gives no opportunity to grow and does not listen to creative ideas. He just mills at his desk and has everything work like a small machine. I asked for more opportunity to grow and learn. Chevo did not take my request sincerely. When talking to others, I found no satisfied employees at Chevo.

    Advice to Management

Find new, fresh, excited leadership. Let employees be involved in the company. Phil should let Zaina run the company, as she supposedly does on paper (just wants to claim Women's-Owned benefits).

    Pros

The company has an amazing capacity for resilience and stability in the face of tough times and issues. In addition, they are all the good things about a small consulting firm; open, flexible and dynamic.

    Cons

The downside for Chevo is the same for any small consulting company in that the opportunities are limited.

    Advice to Management

Maintain a small company culture that values employees, relationships and flexibility.

I have been working at Chevo Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is very small. Phil (acts as the CEO) will know your name. The company meets often so that the employees can hear how the company is doing.

    Cons

Every company meeting covers how Chevo didn't do very well and that we shouldn't expect raises. Because the company is small, you don't go anywhere, your resume doesn't grow. Also, this company is slated as a women-owned company...but Phil is the person running it, not his wife, Zaina.

    Advice to Management

Promote internally. Let all of your employees help with proposals and other business. Use the talents that your employees have.

    Pros

Good salary and benefits. Good cultural mix, some team members are great to work with.

    Cons

Clueless management team re:the federal market place. No BD personnel and Program Managers are not focused on clients' requirements.

    Advice to Management

Decide what type of company you want to be...determine your focus and hire capable managers.

  10. "Typical small consulting company. You are hired for a position at a client and that client only"

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Senior Management

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

There are some really good employees to work with and if they are on your team it can be a good work environment. The pay is good and the benefits are reasonable for a small company.

    Cons

Although there are several clients, there is almost no interaction across client project teams.
Its also a typical small business so expect some politics at the home office. The home office pretty much only cares about hours billed so expect to work on Federal holidays.
