I worked at Chevron for less than a year

    Pros

Nice work environment. Decent compensation. Focus on experienced employees.

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great company with may opportunities for growth and in different areas of the company. Everyone is friendly and reasonable and promotes a one team behavior. Company really promote work life balance and personal development. Great benefits and compensation.

    Cons

Being an oil company they will sometimes resort to old methodologies and technologies that in the long run have a short lifespan. That is now starting to change, however is a bit slower on taking off and accepting new changes. Again this is now changing, but will take a while for it to fully take hold in the business.

    Advice to Management

Continue to drive the company to make improvements and advancements to future technologies that will result in high value to the company. While older technologies and ERPs are necessary to the business keep striving for acceptance and usage of other technologies that will widely expand the capabilities.

I worked at Chevron for more than a year

    Pros

Chevron overall makes accommodations for a safe workplace, with sit/stand desks for everyone. They SAY they want everyone to speak up, and SAY they are inclusive of all ideas. Their mission statement is admirable, if only it were true and applied to IT projects.

    Cons

They actually are very hierarchically and politically structured. Also, in the Information technology projects, the management is skewed across several groups. There is no one person accountable for project personnel. Thus, power plays and bad behaviors go unchecked. Contractors report to one person, who does not have in-depth knowledge of all of the projects. Project managers report to another person. Employees...

    Advice to Management

A more wholistic management structure could prevent some of the fractured behaviors and chaos that result as people as vying for power and trying to survive while working Chevron projects.

    Pros

Awesome 401k match, plenty of learning and development opportunities, management are readily available for communication, company cares about your health

    Cons

Oil industry is going under so there are major cuts happening in too many parts of the company. Unsure about the future.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support your employees and you will continue to get great work. Strongest asset is the people and never stop caring for them. Keep it up

I worked at Chevron for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great pay and benefits including a pension and an annual bonus called the Chevron Incentive Plan (CIP).

    Cons

Maddeningly bureaucratic, with a strong mindset among most managers to resist change, even though embracing change is a company value. It's a very technology-driven company, but ERP, IT and Finance support have all been offshored and/or outsourced, so issues are typically resolved slowly, especially since most service centers do NOT adapt their workdays to the U.S. I was with Chevron for nearly 20 years, and during...

    Advice to Management

Chevron wasn't built on the short-term, management by best-seller style that you're currently practicing. Develop your talent from the ground up, as you've done for much of the last 130 years.
