I worked at Chevron for more than a year

    Pros

Chevron overall makes accommodations for a safe workplace, with sit/stand desks for everyone. They SAY they want everyone to speak up, and SAY they are inclusive of all ideas. Their mission statement is admirable, if only it were true and applied to IT projects.

    Cons

They actually are very hierarchically and politically structured. Also, in the Information technology projects, the management is skewed across several groups. There is no one person accountable for project personnel. Thus, power plays and bad behaviors go unchecked. Contractors report to one person, who does not have in-depth knowledge of all of the projects. Project managers report to another person. Employees working on the project report elsewhere. And at the top of the group, managers are told only what project managers and staff want them to hear. If you report gaps in the project and you might find yourself out the door. There is a constant stress because Chevron has been laying off employees in the downturn of the oil industry. Employees don't feel secure, and contractors know they are only there for the length of a contract, although Chevron can, and does, terminate contracts early.

    Pros

Awesome 401k match, plenty of learning and development opportunities, management are readily available for communication, company cares about your health

    Cons

Oil industry is going under so there are major cuts happening in too many parts of the company. Unsure about the future.

I worked at Chevron full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good safety environment and lot of good work

    Cons

No growth / promotions for Asian women, especially if you have a White Caucasian male as your manager. He will sweet talk you and convince you to take the most challenging projects. When it comes to reward, he will find some trivial fault in your work ethics and stretch it so much, which makes an employee feel like they committed a major crime. Very pretentious and hypocrite when it comes to Diversity.

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Good benefits and good pay.

    Cons

Large number of bureaucratic management in place who are adverse to thinking outside the box, they just want to check the box and move on. Don't have an opinion unless you are a senior manager, manager that knows a lot of people or someone who is a top performer or you will get pigeon holed and you will have no career. The company (ITC) is NOT committed to its employees; going layoffs every 2-4 years and outsourcing IT jobs.

I worked at Chevron full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits and salaries. There is also opportunities to move around the company and work with different teams and do a variety of work.

    Cons

Executive management of the IT function is horrible. Upper management views IT as a money pit, and continually cuts into the budget, sending as much work overseas as they can. Every couple of years the goal seems to be to cut 10%, and no one ever communicates to upper-level executives just how ineffective this strategy is. The remaining workers are expected to 'manage' overseas resources, but they end up just doing the work themselves, since it's virtually impossible to get quality, timely work from overseas team members. Business unit customers complain to IT staff, but those complaints are never communicated higher up - or if they are, it doesn't appear that those complaints make a bit of difference.
