Pros
CPChem is a great place to work. Awesome benefits and fair pay. I feel the work load is well balanced and the 9/80 schedule is great, however I wish they would let you make it up when you have to miss one of your days. They are also very concerned with safety it is embedded in the culture.
Cons
The culture is very conservative and I mean fiscally. I've paid for almost all my lunches every time we've gone out on team lunches.

Overall good, not perfect

Flexible 9/80 work schedule Small enough company it's possible to have visibility with Senior Management early on Big enough company jobs are secure Multiple locations in the Houston area
Cons
Number of "managed moves" limit advancement opportunities for other job - seeking employees Some manufacturing sites have Union - management relationship issues

good pay, very lean , many noncontributing workers , lack of procedures

Great location in Woodlands Stable company with good pay and benefits, bonus, pension, 9/80 schedule Small enough company where you get noticed and get opportunities to try different things
Cons
No defined career path or coaching, almost no advancement opportunities Very lean and understaffed as a result if somone slacks off things fall through the cracks because there is no back up Many workers over 55 y.o. who are not motivated, don't learn and just waiting to retire. Since the company is so lean, this puts a lot of burden on the remaining employees Not very good at training or defining operations procedures, everybody fends for themselves Can be very cheap when it comes to extra spending on employees or making the workplace comfortable or efficient Management is very old school when it comes to work schedule. Apart from 9/80 there is no flexibility in work hours or working from home parttime. Everyone is expected to be in the office 8 hours a day and not a minute less which is very hard for women with chilldren and that leads to attrition.

Cons
Could be better with the inclusion of non-manager positions but besides that not much else to complain about

Good Job, Bad Micromanagement
Aug 15, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
9/80 work schedule; Bonuses are usually good and have been always paid every year even it is a down year
Cons
Need more flexibility in work schedules to create a better work/home life balance, especially for employees that are required to care for serious home issues and work a full time job. Don't provide sick and vacation time and then threaten to take the time away from employees because these are benefits or perks of employment. HR keeps certain employees from development, forcing people to stay in positions for months to years because they see the employee as a problem because of a host of potential reasons. You may miss out on career advancement and learning opportunities. HR will always back a supervisor, not believing that an employee is telling any truth. There's really no where to report issues of a coworker to when HR and that person are together all of the time. If a 25+ year tenured supervisor or coworker does wrong, they should be let go just as quickly as someone would be that has been with the company for 5 years or less. Micromanagement from mid-level supervision is horrible. Especially if the supervisor came from a parent company or other CPChem location that didn't trust employees so the supervisor continues to pay it forward several years later. Supervisors manage their people as though the employees are always trying to get something over on the them or company.

Stay away from IT Audit
Sep 7, 2017 - IT Auditor in The Woodlands, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The benefits are good and the 9/80 schedule is good, but you’ll end up working more hours than the 80.
Cons
Some IT Audit managers are awful. They Know nothing about technology and they enjoy trying to belittle everyone whenever a chance is given. Stay away.

Impressive and growing company
Sep 13, 2016 - Engineer in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
For its industry, CPChem is a smaller company and is extremely profitable as it produces incredible amounts of product. Opportunities for Engineers here are abundant as they continue to grow at a very fast pace. 9/80 schedule is great.
Cons
The growth and retirement of baby-boomers could present issues later in the knowledge handover. The pay is above average but not as good as come of its competitors. They lose some young employees simply for higher salaries attained at other jobs...this doesn't need to happen.

Great Company Name - Poor People Environment
Mar 20, 2013 - IT Specialist in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great brand 9/80 work schedule + competitive salary and benefits (within chemical industry)
Cons
In their own words this company is too lean and too mean, managers do not have leadership skills, they do not know the basics, and the HR department does not do anything about that. Actually they are (HR) the most unskilled people. New management in the surface, but the same old characters in the bottom. Weird culture, or non culture, and forget about core values, they do not exist. Lack off development opportunities, and the HR employee development department its only a name, its manager only is aware of senior executives, does not have any offering for the people that generate the revenue or is in the front line. The only thing that you can breath is fear
