    Pros

Pay, benefits, work hours, good coworkers who want the same things in life, supportive like minded coworkers, hard working coworkers who pull their weight.

    Cons

Told every move to make, not allowed to have any input in decision making. Puts on a mask in the community, but doesn't help their own.

    Advice to Management

Run your company from the bottom up, instead of dictating everything that will be done. You might just be surprised at how much better things run.

    Pros

Bonus: average. Hours: 9/80. Safety: prioritized.

    Cons

Pay: less than market. Managers: lack follow thru, unqualified, micromanage, retaliation. Promotion: poor. Communication: poor.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers with experience, not on titles. Invest in employees within. Micromanaging is a past thing. Pay fair market value for talented employees. Stop with the "clicks" - manageress, engineers, contractors, etc.

    Pros

    Excellent pay. Pension, 401k matching.

    Cons

Dishonest HR dept. Retaliation from lower mgmt. Threats. harassment. Lower mgmt encourages harassment. Upper mgmt has deaf ears and retaliates with lack of feedback complaints with performance review program to offer "feedback". Ignores completely constructive suggestions. Touts "safety first" while leaving sheetmetal maint lunchroom in "blastzone" while adding on to main office building.

    Advice to Management

Don't offer sick pay benefits and then dare employees to use them

I have been working at Chevron Phillips Chemical full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Reputable company, focus on the safety of employees.
CPChem is small enough to feel like a medium sized company where you know most of your fellow employees.
Profitable company that is focused on doing what they do well (Olefins-Polyolefins value chain).

    Cons

CPChem has decided to pay less than the competition over the last 10 years and it's beginning to show. Outside hires since forming the company in 2000 are not of the same caliber as those that came from the parent (oil ) companies. Employee turnover has increased dramatically over the last 6 years with many experienced people moving on to higher paying positions elsewhere.

Tendency to hire/ promote people within the organization more on who they are related to, go to church with, play golf with, etc. rather than objective work performance, experience, or proven contributions. Being a flat organization and a medium sized company, upward promotional opportunities are severely limited once you are at a mid management level.

A great deal of micro- management culture still pervades from one of the parent companies, seems totally out of place and a "dinosaur" in today's work environment.

CPChem focus's on the bottom line is exclusive to developing employees or making it a "great place to work".

    Advice to Management

Invest in your experienced employees, they are what makes the company profitable in the long term.

I worked at Chevron Phillips Chemical as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Safety conscious, laid back, freedom to work without micromanagement

    Cons

HR is out of control crazy. They may call you up one day and accuse you of harassing the plant manager (whom you've never called) and tell you to stop at once. When you inform them that they are factually mistaken there seems to be a disconnect. They have absolutely no imagination. Mid-level managers care little for the health of the company. They care only of getting next promotion so they can move to a company with more pay.
They will only pay 'industry average' but somehow think this will get them the 'best workforce'.

    Advice to Management

Avoid incentives traps. They're starting t pop up.

I worked at Chevron Phillips Chemical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great brand
9/80 work schedule + competitive salary and benefits (within chemical industry)

    Cons

In their own words this company is too lean and too mean, managers do not have leadership skills, they do not know the basics, and the HR department does not do anything about that. Actually they are (HR) the most unskilled people. New management in the surface, but the same old characters in the bottom. Weird culture, or non culture, and forget about core values, they do not exist. Lack off development opportunities, and the HR employee development department its only a name, its manager only is aware of senior executives, does not have any offering for the people that generate the revenue or is in the front line. The only thing that you can breath is fear
