I worked at Chevron full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and some benefits are ok.

    Cons

It is not how well you do your job, it is who you know if you want to keep your job.
Management does not want to know the truth and will not tell anyone the truth.
Yearly pay determinations is by forced rankings not by individual merit.
Management preaches safety but will ignore safety when it gets in the way of progress or production.

    Cons

Management. The ups and downs of the oil & gas cycle. I saw many great talents get let go.

I have been working at Chevron as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Fantastic pay.

Chevron takes a politically biased approach to diversity. If you enjoy having the bar constantly lowered for you, taking credit for the achievements of others, deflecting accountability to co-workers, and you're either female or non-Caucasian (or both), you'll like it here.

To be fair, there are a few exceptionally talented and genuinely cordial people at Chevron, and many of them are female and/or non-Caucasian.

    Cons

The open office environment is an absolute nightmare. Some of us are in tiny quasi-cubicles that are barely a step up from a bullpen. It's very noisy and extremely distracting.

A lot of the people here are hostile and abusive. I've seen employees literally call business partners stupid, uneducated, and all sorts of terrible things.

Huge bureaucracy. Due to so many layers of management, it takes them about ten times longer to accomplish anything than it should.

Work comes in short spurts. Most of the time you'll be twiddling your thumbs trying to find something to do. Then, usually around the end of a phase or towards the end of the year, you'll be given enough work for three people. At these times, you'll be under a huge amount of stress to hurry up and finish everything.

Chevron takes a politically biased approach to diversity. If you are a Caucasian male and a business partner, this place is going to be even more dreadful. You'll get the lion's share of abuse, anything good you do will be credited to someone else, and you'll be constantly blamed for the mistakes of others. Incidentally, Chevron usually won't hire Caucasian males directly unless they put up with being business partners for five to ten years first.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice for Chevron. The thing they do best is waste time and resources, yet they somehow manage to be one of the most successful oil & gas companies in the world. They must be doing something right.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's much safer than franchise gas stations, because of requirement to drop every $20 bill you get from the customer. Free coffee.

    Cons

Chevron is paranoid. They make employees wear a lot of unnecessary PPE, do a lot of nonsense loops, clean the pumps and restrooms, work in a cooler and all the worst things you can imagine.

    Advice to Management

To rise the pay. To not contradict themselves when they first say "take your time" and at the same time they want you to do 10 things at the same time.
