I worked at Chevron as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is a company that works as a team. Everyone is included in the process of projects that are in place. Management, Supervisors, and Team leads notify you in advance if there is a delay or a company change. I worked with them (temporary) at the Downtown Houston location. It is a positive place to work with lots of diversity.

    Cons

Hard to secure a position at times. There are not any cons that I can find.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Work/life balance and working environment. Chevron has a great safety culture which is so much engrained in its employees that after some time it just becomes second nature to do everything the right/safe way.
Very good company to work for.

    Cons

As with any big company, very process oriented. Sometimes projects gets delayed because of all the processes it needs to follow.
You can get lost easily within the company, you have to be on your toes and build relationships with management to proceed further, not always, but most of the time.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Large Enterprise to practice IT on
    - Diverse employees
    - Pockets of talent

    Cons

    - Value of IT is overall seen as low-mid importance at best
    - Low value of IT leads to innovative employees and high performers having to focus their energy outside of the workplace.
    - Strong work ethic is encouraged but not valued
    - Significant turnover in technology staff taking place leading to tough growing pains for pre-existing employees and new incoming employees alike
    - Management not qualified to run technical teams leading to lack of focus and value of the real priorities
    - Lack of inclusion for African and African-American employees

    Advice to Management

Promote technology more seriously and find ways to encourage technical advancement in the company. Attract and hire qualified management and stop trying to achieve excellence holistically through processes (i.e. - why does our datacenters keep failing). Re-examine the Horizons program for high-performers and their movement throughout the company. Sell management on development programs and encouraging them to promote staff throughout the organization where it makes sense. Take diversity and inclusion seriously.

I worked at Chevron full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They pay you very well. The compensation is good. It is just great to see the things they are doing there.

    Cons

I don't think that everyone should work in a place where solar panels are nonexistant and contributing to the demise of the earth is number one priority. You have to come in whenever they call.

I have been working at Chevron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quality people to work with. Great salary. Got to to some business travel as an intern. Learned much more than expected.

    Cons

Chevron possesses the cons that you would expect a giant corporation to have. Oftentimes corporate policy will trump logical reasoning.
