I worked at Chevron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people that you work with at Chevron make working there great. There is plenty of room for advancement and the Union will support you.

    Cons

The training was sometimes stressful. I like learning all the topics, however, the training as a whole was not thought through.

    Advice to Management

Put a little more time into creating a curriculum so that training runs a bit smoother. The employees know what they are talking about, it was just hard to understand their thought process as far as the training was concerned.

I have been working at Chevron full-time

    Pros

Lots of mobility within the co. Great benefits, work life balance, etc.

    Cons

Energy sector is shaky. Ups and downs, layoff worries come and go. Climate change is real, too.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the PMP, reward those that work hard, not those that have mastered tooting their horn.

I worked at Chevron full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

good benefits, great matching on the 401k, 2 weeks of paid vacation to start, all holidays included

    Cons

obsession with safety metrics over the actual processes, low ceiling for technicians, little room for exploratory research

    Advice to Management

nothing when it's a multi-billion dollar international company with little wiggle room

I worked at Chevron (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many great people. Great benefits. Good severance package for those who are displaced by downsizing. I worked for a lot of great supervisors.

    Cons

Like all companies, your boss can make all the difference in how much you enjoy your work.

    Advice to Management

Short term financial gains may not have the intended long term outcome.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance; 9/80 Fridays are respected and people are family oriented. Huge company with the possibility to change careers every 2 years and experience totally different job functions.

    Cons

The company is old and big, read: slow. Tons of bureaucracy and resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

Hire the best, then retain them by keeping up with the competition in terms of salary. This is the business model but is not functioning correctly.

    Pros

    Good 401K matching program
    Compensate well
9/80 schedule gives you every other Friday off

    Cons

Don't cover full health and dental insurance
Not very much room to move up the ladder if you don't have a graduate degree

I have been working at Chevron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, great people, and a huge learning experience unlike anything you will receive in school. An excellent way to make connections.

Worked on projects that actually mattered to the company, as well as I got to see how engineering applied in the real world.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance is poor. 9/80 Schedule is nice, however it makes it difficult to enjoy every day. Seems to be an expectation to stay beyond your 9 hours.

    Advice to Management

Need less red tape, and a better document management system in order to better pass on information across generations of employees.

    Pros

Work is relevant and important. There are opportunities to work in different areas of the business and in different technologies over the course of a career. The benefits include a yearly bonus, excellent contributions to a 401K, and a pension plan. Employees participate in a yearly survey and the results ot the survey are taken seriously. Advancement within the company is possible. Chevron's facilities and equipment are operated safety and reliably. Alternative work schedules are available and widely used.

    Cons

There is still a "Good Old Boys" culture in some parts of the organization. The pace is fast and the workload can cause significant stress and long work hours.

    Advice to Management

Focus on both long term and short term objectives. Implement new technologies successfully. Continue the work to impove the public's impression of the company.
