I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Compensation (100k min), most groups offer the option to work 4/10s or 9/80s. Chevron offers U-time to salaried employees(every hour extra worked is banked to be taken off or paid out as straight time twice a year). Very stable company, great benefits 8% 401k match to your 2% min. Very diverse company!

    Cons

Depending on your group you will probably work shutdowns and will end up with 300+ hours of extra U-time that you will earn. This company has a history of nepotism, which can be great if your family is also there but not so great if you aren't connected.

    Advice to Management

The career pipeline offered to engineers needs to be available for all crafts. Maintenance and Reliability (i.e. Inspectors) do not have this option and stagnate career wise after a few years.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced and challenging work. I'm never bored which keeps me highly motivated. A lot of freedom to take on projects that interest you. Great salary and bonus structure. Work life balance is extremely respected.

    Cons

Chevron highly values consensus as an organization so a lot of time can be wasted on meetings and communications that add little value.

I have been working at Chevron as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere to work in. Both employees and contractors are treated equally. Diversity group events are held along with information seminars. Systems, programs and software is always the most current versions. Overall a great place to work at.

    Cons

The only cons has to do with being a contractor. But besides that nothing really to point out that is of concern.

I have been working at Chevron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quality people to work with. Great salary. Got to to some business travel as an intern. Learned much more than expected.

    Cons

Chevron possesses the cons that you would expect a giant corporation to have. Oftentimes corporate policy will trump logical reasoning.

Friendly and fast-paced work environment, independence and responsibility given to summer interns. Overall a great experience (Engineering Intern). Company really cares about work-life balance, too.

    Cons

No big negative things to say about my internship experience. Corporate culture can occasionally get in the way of progress/new ideas.

I worked at Chevron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

An excellent place to complete an internship. Very focused on safety. Would gladly return if I had more summers left to intern, but I will be graduating in Spring 2013.

    Cons

The refinery is in Richmond, which is usually in the Top 10 of most crime-filled cities in the US every year. It sits on the very edge though and away from the town, but it's pretty close.
