I worked at Chicago Board Options Exchange full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and opportunity for advancement if you are in technology such as software development and back end programming.

    Cons

They don't value the individual nor do they value a person with a family. Their communication style consists of "we are there for you" until they are not. They say there are no stars but they consistently promote people with no experience and do not distribute accolades fairly.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your long time employees who just may have their hands in more projects that you may know.

    Cons

Low pay, sometimes things are disorganized

    Advice to Management

Good culture, but comp needs to match the rest of the industry to retain people.

I have been working at Chicago Board Options Exchange full-time

    Pros

Work life balance is great, friendly Midwest polite coworkers, nice HR events, decent benefits, great location, looks good on a resume

    Cons

The company is in the process of acquiring another exchange and you can feel the misery as soon as you walk through the door. Many are concerned about their jobs and there has been little done to ease those fears. Unless you're one of the few with an office you're just another chump in a cubicle and your voice really doesn't matter. If you have the right manager you can have a good experience here but overall, you're not really seen or valued as an individual. Very top down and hierarchical, old fashioned and unwilling to change. Hostile to women, who only make up a third of the company.

    Advice to Management

Diversify your upper management. Provide clear paths for advancement. Don't lie to new hires and say they can grow there. It's a place for lifers, might as well be the government.
