    The pay and benefits can be good. There were plenty of paid holidays and vacation time so it was not a challenge to be away from the office a lot. See cons, this was necessary for mental health. I was able to gain significant experience in different aspects of of finance with some talented people.


    Expect a typical government atmosphere. A significant percentage of staff and management is in place for reasons other than their competency. One of these managers in Finance is the biggest @$%&#*! I ever met. Expect him to blame you for his mistakes, write you up for immaterial violations of unwritten policies months after the fact. If you are a woman, he will scream at you in closed door meetings until you cry. If he fires you don't expect the union to fight for you. All the union wants is your dues. Also expect dingy facilities, old technology, bureaucratic inertia and annual budget cuts/layoffs.
