I have been working at Chico's FAS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and campus amenities.
    Promotion track available.
    Easy access to upper management.

    Cons

HR rep has never had a face to face with our department.
No room for promotion in department.
Have to change departments and roles to get ahead.
SVP only takes an interest in half the department.
    Salary.

    Advice to Management

Take care of current employees, not just new employees. The salary discrepancies for new hires and current employees have not gone unnoticed. The campus wide salary increase was not in line with the company principles.

I have been working at Chico's FAS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

At Chico's FAS headquarters in Fort Myer's Florida, I have been able to build an amazing career. You are in charge of your destiny - you can build the career that you want. I love the people I work with daily...we work hard, but we also have a blast while doing so. The culture that the Senior Leadership Team has built gets stronger and stronger every day. A culture of support for one another and one that promotes and encourages personal and career development at any level. The benefits package and the on-site amenities are awesome (including a daycare, gym, and car wash/detailing!)

    Cons

    Truly can't think of any...

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

I worked at Chico's FAS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Comparable pay, lower cost of living. Weather is nice. Teams below the thermal layer (director level) are very helpful and passionate. If your boss is good you are good. Shelley broader CEO is amazing. She is trying to turn ship.

    Cons

With new reorg structure limited possibility to advance w title/function. Once you come in at a title very hard to advance no matter how many awards and accolades one receives. Vp and above level super political, can't make a decision and struggle w accountability. Brand presidents have their favs- hard to penetrate and work w the "click". Old school management style at the top.

    Advice to Management

Remove your leaders that are not adhering to the servant leadership model and still can't make a decision until the last min and are not following the operating principles. Big mistake EC is making is not taking swifter action to remove those people.

I worked at Chico's FAS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good location if you like the beach and shopping atmosphere.
    - Once you're used to the job, working from home is pretty well supported.
    - Unlimited sick days.

    Cons

    - Nepotism.
It is impossible to get promoted without having friends in positions above you.

    - Promotions only through attrition, if at all.
They will often terminate roles in the organization. I.E. if a Manager is terminated a Sr or Lead will take over their responsibilities with no increase in pay.

    - Dishonest management.
Management frequently lies to associates out of convenience, and will mislead associates for their own benefit.

    - No clear advancement paths.
There is a lot of talk from HR about career opportunities. However the only advancement opportunities come through advancing into recently vacated positions.

    - Lackluster benefits.

    - Horrific pay compared to industry standards.
It's well understood that SW FL exists in a lower-than-average pay scale, however Technology positions suffer to an extreme. As an example, IT associates are expected to support multiple applications. Some of these applications, if supported by an external contractor, would cost more than 3x the average salary at Chico's.

    - Focus on outsourcing.
The organization maintains an old philosophy that day to day operations can be handled by internal staff, but anything above and beyond this should be outsourced (at $150+ an hour), instead of passing some of this cost to internal teams and let them handle the work

    - Disconnected management.
You will be very lucky here to have a manager or director with whom you communicate on a regular basis. On multiple occasions it is expected to go weeks to months without any kind of touch base to make sure you are on track. Though autonomy is a good thing, it can be a double edged sword if abused.

    - Copycat mentality.
At some point in your career, you will hear the words "make it like <competitor>". There is almost no room for innovation. Anything outside the box will not likely gain traction.

    - Frequent layoffs.

    - Lack of "voice" for employees.
Employees are given opportunities to speak their minds, but there is no action taken on this. Anything from the lighting to infrastructure will be discussed, but nothing changes.

    - Outdated practices/methodologies.
There is an inherent fear of adapting to new methodologies, tools, practices, etc. It is extremely difficult to gain traction on a new idea, unless it is bogged down in bureaucratic nonsense.

    - Bureaucracy over simplicity.
As a technology associate, the process of submitting and making a change is bogged down in forms, paperwork, and outdated practices. There is no means to accommodate agile development methodologies. Everything follows a "rack and steel", waterfall method. An aberration to either of these is met with significant resistance. This has an added effect of promoting shadow IT, which becomes completely unmanageable.

    - No measurable performance metrics.
Any individual contributor should be easily measured in an enterprise. At Chico's, this measurement fails spectacularly. Though data exists to measure individual performance, it is not taken into account. Instead, overall organization performance is used, enforcing the belief that you should rest on the accomplishments of people working harder than you.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on the future.
Learn to adapt to a changing environment.
    Recruit talent over friends.
    Promote performance.

    Pros

Corporate is in sunny Fort Myers, Fl.

    Cons

I would not recommend Chicos to my worst enemy. If you are looking for opportunities here, please heed this advice, Always ask for more. If you don't you will be doing a the same job as someone else for a lot less money.
Raises every year are around 2%, so don't get your hopes up. The raises are not merit based, so someone that's doesn't do half the amount of work you do will also get the same raise.
If your good with politics you may be able to get promoted, but I wouldn't count on it.

    Advice to Management

Hire better managers, Hold to the company values, promote from within, stop having so many meetings

    Pros

Great product! Customer is loyal and very vocal. Loves and wants fashion product.

    Cons

Leadership doesn't understand the customer, and doesn't listen to what she wants.

    Advice to Management

You're caught up in too much process and meetings, and need to get back to focusing on the customer and the product, and not the politics.
