Pros
Ability to make good money in commissions depending on if you work with a fair team.
Cons
Commission based stores are not the easiest to work in with coworkers that are overly competitive.

They will suck the life out if you if you allow it
Jun 27, 2015 - Part Time Sales Associate in Clifton, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Smaller, more contained than a department store. Once you get accustomed to the product and store layout it can be more manageable than other retailers for setting up and keeping the store in order. Some great coworkers and more personal than working for other chain stores.
Cons
Pay is way too low for what is expected. Bonus is nice, but not dependable. Retail is very demanding in general and this company is no exception. Not sure that advancement is possible, I don't desire it anyway. But depending on how the store manager and district manager handle towing the company line, they can make it impossible. They have unrealistic expectations of profit, don't seem to take into account the demographics of the area, including the fact that there are several stores within a 10 mile radius. Returns from other stores and the internet come off of the profit of the store that the returns go to ? Why? The manager tells you to turn the return into a sale. Some of these women are in the store weekly and buy constantly. Not easy to turn it around when they bought hundreds of dollars worth of items over the last month, etc. The calling campaigns and constant asking for donations for charity are also annoying. Hours are cut, often at the last minute due to "not making plan". Moral is very low, and the store hires and loses people frequently. I have to say, this company seems to attract the most demanding, difficult customers. Chico's feeds the situation by the constantly changing sales percentages and the blasted coupons. As with a lot of businesses, managers have favorites, and really reliable people are not acknowledged. Can't foresee doing this job for much longer, I think it has run its course.

It's all fake and we're tired

Coworkers are genuinely helpful and there are some smart people here... or used to be
Cons
Pay well under market value, will not promote you no matter how well you perform, terrible judgement when it comes to hiring managers, directors, etc... not very strategic, always scrambling, pivoting, and reacting and trying to pass it off as innovation. Super late in the game on basic things. Extremely understaffed where it's needed. I could go on... Senior leaders keep hiring their friends and don't hold them to the same level of accountability as other employees. Everyone I know is looking for other opportunities because we are overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated- leaders seem to think that 'appreciation' is a shoutout. If you're looking for real appreciation- i.e. career advancement opportunities, promotions where promotions are due, or market rate compensation- look elsewhere. Since the huge staff cuts this year, there are gaping holes still left unfilled. There is no barrier whatsoever between senior leaders and lower level staff, leaving employees feeling vulnerable to out of touch leaders who gush over "huge profits" in one breath and lament over budget in the next. Just know that when it comes to shareholders, we're doing great and when it comes to employees, we're understaffed, underpaid, and under-resourced. HR is probably going to respond to this, but people have been dropping like flies and there's been no real effort to improve retention.
Continue readingThank you for posting your review. We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience working for us. In the last year Chico’s FAS, like other retailers and business throughout the country, has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This caused us to temporarily close stores, identify and realign core functions and operations, and readjust our staffing models. As we now emerge from this pandemic we will continue to evaluate our operational needs and adjust staffing levels, compensation and other key programs. This includes identifying and maximizing internal growth opportunities and Associate development. We will also continue to maintain a robust recruiting effort to attract and retain exceptional talent, both internal and external. In addition, while Chico's FAS provides competitive compensation for our Associates we continue to review and evaluate our compensation programs and initiatives. The well-being and work/life balance of our Associates is extremely important to us. We offer a number of wellness and mindfulness initiatives for Associates. As we all move back towards pre-pandemic “normal” we are committed to providing our Associates with a great work environment and meaningful recognition for their hard work. We would love to hear more from you about how you think we could improve. Please feel free to contact us at glassdoorfeedback@chicos.com.

Thanks for the review. we are glad you had a fun experience working for Chico's FAS. Unfortunately, due to intermittent staff shortages caused by the COVID pandemic Associates often had to perform a variety of tasks and functions. We are so grateful to all of our Associates who continue to give their best everyday and help us provide the most amazing personal service to our loyal customers.

Great work environment with coworkers and willingness to work with your schedule. Stress free work place with limited work load among a small group of coworkers.
Cons
Limited number of positions available and thus a limited room for professional progression within an individual store. I only worked part time but that is what I observed from coworkers

If you don't want to commit suicide
Oct 18, 2014 - Distribution Associate in Winder, GARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The only positive thing I can think about this place are the good coworkers that are the only inspiration to leaving the place.
Cons
Horrible place to work at. Management brings you down all time, you will never be good enough. If you are not 100% with your production numbers, you will get memos. The best workers there that work diligently and work tirelessly on a constant basis still get memos. You are a mere number at this company. Mentally unhealthy environment.
