Quality clothing, caring employer, with a focus on individual sales
Aug 5, 2014 - Part Time Sales Associate in Birch Run, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was allowed to work over the summer and during University breaks, so I always had a job to go home to. They helped me and I helped them. I liked most of the people I worked with and most of the managers were friendly and flexible. It was easy to request days off as needed or to switch shifts with other employees as needed. You are told at the beginning of your shift what your goals are for the day and exactly what is expected of you. I enjoyed my time there for the most part. Competitive wages for a retail job, paid more than minimum wage (approximately $9.50/hr to start back in 2008), small bonus for meeting goals, and raises almost every year across the board.
Cons
The only thing I did not like about working for Chico's was they were very focused on individual sales goals. They did not encourage teamwork. It caused some competitiveness and cattiness between employees as they compete for the customer that looked like they would buy the most, while customers only shopping the clearance section were mostly ignored. I had a coworker (who had more seniority and experience than me) argue with me in front of a customer that I was trying to steal her sales and I think this is an embarrassment to the company, I was just trying to serve the customer and do my job.

Store Manager-Just a job, not a career.
Feb 28, 2018 - Store ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Co-workers were great and the paycheck was good. The district manager I had when I first came on board was amazing and very supportive. Things were really good for the first two years I worked for the company. I loved my store team, we were like a family and my store manager peers in my district were amazing.
Cons
Retail is a hard business to be in with any retailer right now. My position was eliminated due to GM restructuring. I was completely blindsided. I was at a fairly high volume store in the top 200 in the company and payroll was always very tight. We were never given enough payroll to run our store effectively. Call campaigns were unrealistic on the limited floor coverage we already had. The district manager that took over my district is not a good leader and is extremely unprofessional in her leadership style. We were micromanaged in every aspect of our business and there were many times that we were treated unfairly and with disrespect. When concerns of this were brought to the attention of the necessary parties, these concerns were dismissed. Sales associates and especially sales leads were not paid enough for their work and contributions. Hiring and staffing for part time was always a struggle with not being able to give enough shifts to part time employees due to limited payroll. Store Managers and Assistant Managers were overworked and stretched so thin. Customers got better deals than the employee discount at times.

Worst place I have worked. They have a lot to learn and grow.

Great product! Great learning experience - "Where not to work".
Cons
One of the selling points of the company is they want to be The Best practices Best places to work.....RUN! Go look for something with better management. They don't have values. Chico's management needs to lead by example. Chico's upper management needs to learn to treat their employees with respect. Rather than with threats. They do not promote with-in. Turn over is high. The employee's have significant difficulties with working for bad bosses despite liking their jobs and the people they work with.. Chico's identifies six kinds of bad bosses and the offer is..do you really want to work here? suggestions for dealing with each type including BULLIES and managers who won't make good decisions.

Unreal expectation
Nov 19, 2015 - Store Manager in Las Vegas, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Hourly. Benefits. Operational hours. Discounts. Bonus dollars. Great customer base and brand recognition. Great loyal customers.
Cons
Too much paperwork that keeps managers off the sales floor and doesn't help drive sales. Too many coupons offered to customers that aren't usable with in store sales and therefore upset customers. Too deep of discounts lowering our bonus possibilities. Returns from Internet directly interfering with the stores chances of. Making the day.

Great company that truly cares about their employees!!
Jun 16, 2021 - Store Manager in Las Vegas, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was with the company for 6 years and loved every minute of my journey with them. Started as a sales associate and quickly moved on up the chain until I had my own store. If you are willing to work hard Chico's will move you up. If COVID wouldn't have happened I would still be with Chico's to this day. All of my managers before becoming a manager myself were phenomenal women who coached and inspired me every day.
Cons
None that I can think of.

Great Experience
Dec 4, 2014 - Part Time Sales Associate in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The managers really value their employees and they will work with your schedule if you are a student.
Cons
The corporate issued discounts. Virtually every day there is some new major sale so that creates stress for the sales team...a lot of returns and price adjustments.

I have been here two years and it was wonderful until this year. Too negative and too much pressure now

Clothes are cute and customers are nice. Sometimes they have good contest to try to motivate you
Cons
Not a positive environment. The district manager micro manages and it makes the managers stressed so it is not as fun as it used to be

Bonus is a joke, high turnover rate and no job advancement
Sep 26, 2010 - Sales Associate in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fun people to work with most of the time. The customers are great
Cons
High turnover as far as assistant managers goes and had 2 managers and 2 DM's. 2nd manager and 2 DM lacked compassion towards co-employees, which seemed bit hypocritical because it that was one of Chico's standards . The BONUS sales system is a joke, a supersale seemed to be a bit a few and far between and then it taxed almost 50%. Lastly, no matter how great your KPI's are no mention about job advancement

great friendly clients, good training manuals provided by company, a self starter can be moderately successful.
Cons
_U!sed to be a company that felt like a family, not any more. store manager drowning in high turnover and horrible location and dm does not visit store for over 6 months! dm motivates by fear, no accountability for upper management, hr does not help you if you have a problem...they are only there to keep company from law suit. click like upper management that is racist at times. i was actually told by my dm that mys staff was too dark!
