I worked at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency full-time

    Pros

Great if you desire to get your foot in the door and gain experience after college.

    Cons

Pay is poor. You could make more working at McDonald's. Seems very unorganized and CEO is very unprofessional with a dry sense of humor. He doesn't seem very intelligent for a CEO.

    Advice to Management

You get what you pay for.

I worked at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not many pros other than the free food and friendly staff. In the first month or so, you're treated like royalty and the welcome seems warm.

    Cons

There was a lot of gossip, especially with management. Even after resigning, management would speak bad of their former employees. Management would pretend to care about the worker's caseload - in reality, not care at all. Bringing up concerns about the amount of work thrown at you was completely pointless as management would give you unrealistic ways to lessen load. They assigned way more cases than the amount in the job description and their reason behind that was "they were understaffed". All in all, management was unprofessional! Demeaning to clients and foster parents. Very high turnover rates because the staff is over worked and underpaid. Staff's safety did not seem concerning as you were required to accommodate the parents and children - so working from 9am to 8pm was pretty normal. Children's Choice claims to have flexibility when it comes to school and taking classes. FALSE. Management would throw it in staff's face reminding staff that work comes first, education second and that "it's a privilege to be able to attend school and work."

    Advice to Management

Spare yourself the trouble and stress, don't apply.

    Pros

Great Co workers and children to work with.

    Cons

Management isn't very sufficient when Assistance is needed. The 2nd in command does nothing but play with her cell phone all day. She refuses to help anyone and can never assist in solving problems.

    Advice to Management

Get an assistant that will actually do a job and not. Pass it on to case managers and case aides. Also, take cues from other agencies and start making the Foster parents responsible for the children They are paid for.

I worked at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-depending on your supervisor, you may have a somewhat flexible schedule
    -generous leave time policy

    Cons

-extremely high turnover - don't stress about learning any employee names, they won't be there in 6 months
    -long hours
-most employees are unofficially on-call 24/7
-all employees are expected to work overtime without time/monetary compensation
-management publicly says they want employee feedback and participation, but privately ignores or dismisses employee contributions
-constantly changing policies and ever-increasing paperwork that is often unnecessary
-learning the job is very challenging; the policy manual is enormous
-social workers will run their cars into the ground, with well-below-market reimbursement, on a very low salary
-employees are treated like children (HR admits this)
-raises are insignificant if they are even offered
-employees are given many paid holidays and generous leave time, but are often discouraged from taking it, or are on-call while out of the office

    Advice to Management

-work-life balance is non-existent, catch up with the times... if you expect people to give 100%, you need to give something back
