I have been working at Children's Creative Learning Centers part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Accountability is very important to CCLC. Good professional development trainings.
Tuition reimbursement and education assistance through the STARS program does make up for the mediocre pay.
Most employees are parents and understanding of work/life/family issues. Also 50% discount for your own kids is certainly something.

    Cons

Teachers definitely not paid enough. Not enough attention to the mental health of teachers.

    Pros

The team I worked with were kind, empathetic and fun to work with. The team felt more like family than just co-workers. The job can be stressful at times but with support of an awesome director and team, that stress will be alleviated.

    Cons

The pay is better than other public schools and programs but still not enough to retain some great teachers (especially those with their own children). High turn over rate.

    Advice to Management

Listen to work your teachers say, they know the family and children best. Pay them what they are worth because we are going to keep losing great teachers at a high rate.

    Pros

Relaxed work environment, boss who cares and is understanding of life and it unforeseen circumstances. Great co teachers to work with. Everyone helps everyone.

    Cons

Not enough planning time. I would
Like more planning time for curriculum. I would
Like to get it all in order before the moth starts and have all my supplies before the month starts.

    Advice to Management

    Help with planning time

I have been working at Children's Creative Learning Centers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits and salary. Ability to move up in the company.

    Cons

The needs of the staff, the client, the families, children, and headquarters are many times in direct conflict. Too many cooks in the kitchen, power struggles and conformity since the buy out by Knowledge Universe. They bought brands and then made them basically all the same. If I wanted to work for KinderCare I would have. I chose CCLC because of their philosophy and reputation for creativity.

    Advice to Management

Allow your brands to operate independently of each other and offer a variety of learning styles and services. Offer more management training, and focus on building great management teams as opposed to plugging holes. You also need to adjust salaries and benefits to your employee market. CCLC and KU will never be competitive in the Bay Area with housing prices so high and wages so low in comparison to their education level desires. No one with a B.A. in The Bay can thrive or survive on $18/hr.
