They throw talent and dedication away and COVID19 disaster

    Pros

    My close coworkers are great.

    Cons

When I started working here I was a huge proponent of CHOA as an institution and business. However, over the past few years it has become increasingly obvious that the execs in the company do not care about their employees. At all. I was hired underpaid and my yearly merit pay has not made up for it. Merit increases should be ON TOP OF the yearly change in pay due to your increased work experience. Yet, the 'merit' for which I should have been thankful, didn't even keep up with the average government value they use to re-evaluate pay values each year. That is insane. In terms of inflation, the true value of my paycheck has decreased over the years. Note, your merit review is complete nonsense. I had a better merit score the past two years but got a smaller salary increase both times. It is also directly influenced by your department's performance. Even if you and your team excel in your work, you will not be rewarded for it. Despite other's responsibility for lowering your merit score, you will never have an opportunity to help them because you don't know who was struggling. You will be, in essence, punished for lazy coworkers who may not even relate to your work flow. You never have the chance to be rewarded for doing extra. The department doesn't get rewarded for your extra hard work. The only thing that counts is the mistakes of others. They offer no yearly increase in salary due to average salary inflation (what I could be getting paid if I left to work elsewhere) and the amount of experience you have is never factored into your pay after the first offer. They do not offer an increase in salary for completing a graduate degree- even one directly related to your field. You will have to apply for an advanced position in order to ever be recognized for your hard work. Don't even dream of working at this 'non-profit' in order to qualify for student loan forgiveness. Thats just the start. The company reaction to COVID19 has been a disaster and completely unacceptable. This is a workplace promoting health for heaven's sake! They are working closely with Emory University and the CDC right down the street from Egleston. And yet they had zero plan for anything despite being warned by both outside and inside groups. I know that employees asked for protections or at least plans and ppe to be prepared in January for potential issues and nothing was done until mid March. They had ample opportunity to prepare and to reassign employees but they did not do so. They furloughed many workers and forced everyone still working to choose between a 20% salary and time cut or give up 6 days of PTO. You still had to get all of your work done, though. Furthermore, they then forced employees to choose between giving up an additional 2 days of PTO or to sign up to clean the hospital. This is no joke. Insanity. This included elderly, and those at high risk. Do they not realize that this screwed the people who need the extra PTO most?? It is clear that many people can and would work from home (after they required people to do so with only one days notice). But they will not allow anyone to continue to work from hometo work from hometo work from home despite the proof that productivity stayed level. Not to mention that they required employees to return to work mid-pandemic. And this was in addition to cleaning the hospital. It's hard to keep working for a company you don't stand behind- and even harder to work for a company that refuses to stand up for you. Despite being a die-hard CHOA advocate, this business has let me down too many times within the past few years. I am now actively telling people to apply elsewhere because the work environment is becoming toxic and hard workers get nothing for their dedication and loyalty. If you want to work here, be prepared for a workforce that turns over quickly and is not re-educated appropriately. The people who know what they are doing, those who are talented and valuable are leaving to retire or to go to another hospital where they are adequately appreciated and rewarded. Be prepared for their replacements to be people with little to no experience and who can't even meet the minimum requirements expected in your yearly review.

    Challenges in leadership

    Pros

Great teammates, beautiful building, healthy food options in cafe.

    Cons

They promote people to lead groups that they have never led previously and they kill the morale of the team. So many loyal people left because of poor leadership under the CAO. They don’t allow work from home because they want employees to spend money in the cafe.

Worst place I have ever worked

    Pros

The Support Center is visually nice. Good food options on campus for a decent price.

    Cons

-The “safety” of employees during Covid is a joke. I was not allowed work from home rights (even when a coworker tested positive for Covid). -The policing of time is ridiculous. -The only way to express criticism to upper management is a 10 question multiple choice survey that is available a few times a year. -There are numerous resignation announcements every month within my department. I was even told by a senior coworker to get out because everyone is leaving.

Great Mission, Great Place to Work

    Pros

Caring for kids with heart conditions take special care and takes special people. Working with kids that have to face difficulties daily due to their heart-related limitations helps you realize how lucky most of us are that don't have health issues. The leadership team is supportive and understands family needs (if you have kids for instance).

    Cons

There was not an ability to work from home when I was there but my job would have allowed for this.

Love the mission…if that’s all that drives you to work there

    Pros

Beautiful buildings, lots of organizational growth, new hospital coming. I feel like leadership has taken strides in areas ignored, like LGBTQ and DEI issues. Work from home has been a plus too. Your coworkers are great to work and collaborate with.

    Cons

No diversity in leadership. The regular staff is quite diverse, but if not in manager/leadership positions. The same people keep getting new opportunities, whereas others get typecasted. Glass ceilings exist everywhere. Other hospitals are better than they are. Lots of great talent have left, but positions get eliminated or combined.
