I had an experience on the first day that someone is not liking you at all. I felt it and that person thought I’m a threat. So, what I did I told this person that I am just here to help and just volunteering to complete my hours. I know I did the right thing. This kinda tick me off, I can’t believe that this exist on this new line of job that I choose. But it will not stop me in doing what I love to do help people and will continue doing it what is the right thing to do.

Great Mission; Great People; Pretty Good Place to Work

May 25, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in Atlanta, GA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Children's has a really great mission - it's about helping kids and everyone takes it very seriously. The compensation seems to be appropriate for most jobs. In general people feel fairly paid - there are certain areas where I assume that we probably need to pay better. Benefits are pretty good and the company does a lot for employee engagement like quarterly events and other fun activities. The people/co-workers are the reason to work here. Everyone is very friendly have care and concern for each other - Children's hires very smart people. Fantastic culture.

    Cons

Children's is a very fast paced environment and sometimes management and leadership don't take the time to grow and develop employees. There is also a lot of red tape to get anything done. Employees can feel as though they are spinning their wheels getting work done only for it to not be implemented. Too many layers to get things approved. Lack of autonomy. Company hires smart people - let them do what you hired them to do. Work life balance is hit or miss depending on your division and leadership.

    IT Department is Dysfunctional

    Nov 12, 2010 -  in Atlanta, GA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Children's is a great place to work as a stepping stone in your career. Benefits package is very comfortable and overal company perks are nice. As a single parent there is flexibility and focus from the company placed on work/life balance. Great place to purse your education and move on to where you will actually influx change.

    Cons

Consistent theme across the orgainization is the lack of managerial skills and professionalism of Managemennt and especially within the IT organization. Management is mostly comprised of individuals who have been with the company for years and felt entitled and thus promoted. Management, is a far cry from modern day professionals. You pretty much have a bunch of bullies without degrees who were just handed a loaded gun. And anyone who presents themselves as a threat (either by education or non conformity) has just placed themselves in the line of fire. It is an accepted attitude among subordiantes that inappropriate behavior and 'Good Old Boy' network of promoting within divisions is acceptable. Persons are promoted based on tenor and not competancy. Management reflects inconsistency with the companys values as they are allowed to 'implement' departmental policies based on personal feelings/convenience. Most likely this environment exists because those in management lack the qualification for the positions and thus create a hostile environment to ensure their stake. This is very rampant within the IT departments and the individuals who have been with the comapany 7+ years in management. Policies and Procedures are constantly broken and not upheld in effort to appease varying individuals. Compensation within IT if far below market. It is acknowledge by the company and stated that they are looking to revise job descriptions to bring them current with today's market. This is still yet to be seen.

    Pros

CHOA attempts every day to help employees find the balance between the Work I Love and the Life I Want to Live. They are extraordinary at creating a healing fun atmosphere. They put great emphasis on making sure employees have time for their own kids.

    Cons

The commute is horrible. Getting around Atlanta is very difficult all times of day. Parking isn't great depending on the location.
