    I worked at Children's Home + Aid full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some great supervisors out there who really support their workers. Your team easily becomes your family and your greatest area of support. Most often you know that when there is a problem, someone on your team has your back. The work can be very rewarding but also heartbreaking depending on what is going on in a case.

    Cons

The pay is a joke although the benefits are ok. Unless you have an advanced degree there isn't much room for advancement (though that is also due in part to state regs).

    Advice to Management

Salaries should better reflect a person's work level and skill set. There should not be such a HUGE discrepancy between corporate offices and the individual caseworker or aide. Should also reward case managers who hold extra cases beyond the standard because of all the extra work that has to be done.

    I worked at Children's Home + Aid full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding and challenging job. I had great support from my direct supervisor. Great team of coworkers. Professional environment.

    Cons

Management was not as supportive as my direct supervisor. My pay was definitely not reflective of my degree. Not sure I that is due to their non profit status or whether or not the organization values higher education. Lots of unrealistic deadlines from the state down. No real room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Pay should be raised for those with higher education and compared to cost of living. Upper management could stand to be more supportive and encouraging towards supervisors and their employees. Lots of meetings about goals we're not meeting and not nearly as many about what was being done right.

    I worked at Children's Home + Aid full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had a very good supervisor and felt the management was supportive. I gained great experience during my time with the agency.

    Cons

For those who have master's degrees, the pay for case managers is not much higher than it is for those with only bachelor's degrees.

    Advice to Management

I would recommended paying masters level workers in case management positions at a higher level to show value for the higher level of education, if it is something the organization does value.

    Pros

Flexibility of schedule, early dismissal days before the holidays

    Cons

The pay does not commemorate with the amount of work that is required.. The agency will set you up for failure. When you are drowning, there is no support to help you. No matter how hard you try to get agad, you never will.. And if you have a family, you will rarely see them because of the work demands.

    I worked at Children's Home + Aid full-time

    Pros

You really get to know the staff you are working with, very well, as constant communication is necessary in this line of work. Training was very helpful, and the instructors are the best. Health benefits are good, although pay is somewhat lacking.

    Cons

No room for advancement. Staff can become overwhelmed dealing with issues regarding trauma, no real outlet provided by the company.

I have been working at Children's Home + Aid full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Caring staff, lots of paid time off and good benefits, fun employee recognition, good employee relationships and a chance to make a difference in the community

    Cons

challenging clients, sometimes long hours. Not a lot of opportunity to grow or expand within departments, but possibly with more education. Pay is lower end, but that is to be expected in social work fields.
