I worked at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

CHS USED to do great work for kids and families. 1902-mid 2000's were the years when the heart of the company beat after the heart of the community. I once was very proud to say I worked for CHS and before it went political, we really did do great work.

    Cons

At inception CHS' drive was to make sure kids and families had a chance at better lives with less poverty, abuse and neglect. Now CHS is motivated to be 'experts' in areas it is not qualified. Doing something once does not an expert make! Because of corporate greed CHS goes after the programs and projects they think will make the money but in the end they do not have the heart to ensure success. They put resources...

    Advice to Management

Stop being greedy and take care of all staff, ESPECIALLY front line and division/region staff. STOP creating jobs for ineffective friends! Rather look at your seasoned program and line staff and promote from within AND DIVERSIFY!!! Stop spending on innovations and pour resources into programs that work and those that have the potential for success. Stop trying to take over everything and learn to do a few things well...it...

I have been working at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    1. I am lucky to have a supportive supervisor who since the beginning has allowed me the freedom to do my job well and make decisions o think are best for my cases. 2. Just about everyone who is my office, Cutler Bay genuinely cares about the families they serve. 3. You are making a positive direct impact in the life of children and in the local community. 4. A sense of accomplishment and pride in the work and services...

    Cons

    1. The job is not 9-5, it allows flexability but also requires you to work later hours that could be difficult for those of us with a family. 2. Pay, no one goes into social services for the salaries, we no know the pay is lower then most other industries . The issue is the lack of "pay bands". A case manager with a Bachelor's and 6 month experiance makes the same as one with 7 years and a master's degree. 3. Case...

    Advice to Management

Pay Bands instead of a set salary. A salary range will help to keep valued employees with training in knowledge from leaving for other jobs. The money we spend on training new people to try to compensate for the high turn over rate could be better used to help keep the quality staff you have already spent money and time to train.

    Cons

low pay unstable hours residential department left out of many functions and communications lack of consistency for staff and children
