I have been working at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s life.

    Cons

Long hours. No salary difference. Same position makes the same pay regardless of education and experience. (i.e. 6 months vs. six years of experience. Exact same pay).

    Advice to Management

Recognize what each individual brings to the company and pay your staff what they’re worth/based on knowledge, skills and experience.

"Great Mission/Not So Great for Employees"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Children’s Home Society of Florida

      Pros

The work is extremely rewarding. The local management was good and the team I worked with was great. I loved the work and felt pride in what we were doing.

      Cons

The pay is extremely low for the expectations of the job. There is no room for growth if you are in administration. State wide leadership thinks they communicate well, but only respond in canned messages.

      Advice to Management

Respect your staff - most are very dedicated and care about the children and families they serve. Find a way to show you care. Be more open in communications and treat staff with more respect.

I worked at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than a year

      Pros

My co workers were genuinely great. My supervisor was understanding and helpful. Not having to be in the office was nice, definitely not a desk job.

      Cons

High case loads. There isn’t enough time in the day to do all the work. Pay is bad for what you have to do. Parents are difficult. Kids can be horrible at times. You put thousands of miles on your car.

      Advice to Management

Pay more, hire more, reduce case loads.

I worked at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Loved working with kids. Some employees. Schedule and flexibility. Utilization of vacation time whenever you want. Meeting different people in the community serving for the same purpose our children.

        Cons

The side show act consists of poor work ethics from every level. No room for advancement because only those who brown nose are noticed. No recognition at all no matter what you do. Benefits are terrible. Cost so much and offer so little. No raises, no bonus’.

        Advice to Management

Pull your pants up and tighten your belts. You have become a comedy for everyone to laugh at. You have taken this organization and destroyed it. You have crippled the very essence for what it stood for. I hope eyes begin to open and damage control begins to facilitate the change this organization truly needs. Cons

They just keep dumping more work on everyone! And it's important to know that all the positive reviews are from employees in the HR department who have been told it's part of their job to put out positive reviews regularly.

        Advice to Management

        Pros

The work with families was rewarding and although difficult it was important.

        Cons

Management does not support employees. Management tells new employees to not come to them with questions and to ask other employees for answers. Lack of support from management leads to high turnover.

        Advice to Management

Improve support of employees and have their back and support them during situations.

Great colleagues; job opportunities and challenging/satisfying work; culture is still committed to excellence

I worked at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time for more than 10 years

        Pros

Rich history and strong local leadership. Local Executive Directors and staff are incredibly dedicated and committed. Competitive compensation and benefits in the non profit arena.

        Cons

In my opinion this is an agency that has lost its soul. Senior leadership is woefully disconnected and lacking in what goes on in local communities who depend on CHS for services. Staff are treated as disposable resources that are laid off, pushed out or fired when they are viewed as not in agreement with management. There is a clear divide between Senior leadership and field staff, favoritism is rampant and there is...

        Advice to Management

Take down your blog about CHS owners vs renters. Dozens of staff who considered themselves owners, acted like owners and dedicated their lives to CHS have been unceremoniously dismissed. A collective 250+ years of experience has left CHS in the past 18 months, many who had over 15 years of service. It is insulting and misleading to make claims about employee ownership, the neighborhood has changed and the HOA is no...
