I have been working at Children's National Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You work according to District of Columbia school schedule. No weekends, Holidays, or snow days ever!!! You can always apply to transfer if you don't like the position to a hospital based position.

    Cons

You have to submit sick leave 7 days in advance. It is not hard to get an occurrence if you have a sick child or become ill yourself. The occurrences follow you for 365 days after they are received. Rapidly changing policies which are made by non-nursing professionals. Many stakeholders involved for every decisions. Extensive time for things to change.

    Advice to Management

    Keep hope alive!!

I worked at Children's National Health System as an intern

    Pros

Very diverse atmosphere. I worked in the genetics lab but not only surrounded by researchers but by doctors, nurses, genetic counselors who also shared the workspace. I thought that was very stimulating and allowed for great collaboration on research projects to work to achieve the "lab bench to bedside" drug development process

    Cons

My internship position was a bit unorganized and unplanned. I wish I had had more guidance from my mentor

I worked at Children's National Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You feel like you are making a difference each and every day being there regardless of your role. It is terrific to be surrounded by brilliant and compassionate minds dedicated to saving and improving the lives of all children.

    Cons

Not surprisingly in a medical system of this size, there is a lot of bureaucracy when it comes to employee reviews and advancement.

    Advice to Management

Improve the review process - one size does not fit all given the varied roles of the employees.
