I worked at Children's National Health System as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Huge learning experience for entry level, research oriented program. Staff is friendly, and fellow students aren't competing for your job, so it is very easy to make lots of connections. Very high level research.

    Cons

Principle investigators are generally extremely busy. Few staff acknowledge the importance of the business aspects of the project on hand, I believe this should be highlighted and expressed more.

    Advice to Management

Management should obtain notes or power point slides from guest speakers that way the student innovators can keep track and refer back to these guest lectures

I have been working at Children's National Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is hard to feel sorry for yourself working at a children's hospital. This truly is a rewarding place to be. As a research engineer, there is a lot of autonomy to drive your own projects and contributions to projects. You kind of set your own hours in this department, but that sometimes means working a lot. There are lots of benefits, such as matched retirement contributions, group healthcare, and pre-tax commuting options.

    Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy, as comes with any large employer. Not too many vacation days.
