I worked at Chinese-American Planning Council part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work Hours are very accommodating for college/graduate students pursuing a career in education. The work environment is very close knit, and almost like a family atmosphere. The site director at Chrystie Street is very supportive of her staff and allows a lot of creativity and autonomy in her staff to create and develop child centered curriculum.

    Cons

compensation isn't great and you don't work many hours. It is an after school program after all, therefore about 15-20 hours a week.

I have been working at Chinese-American Planning Council full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are nice because of the laid back community service environment.

    Cons

Haven't gotten a raise for a few years now. Not even to account for inflation.

    Advice to Management

There's a lot to say. A lot of things are wrong and the internal politics is ridiculousness. A lot of good people who knows their stuff are leaving. Get your act together before you lose people who care about the organization and the people!!!

    I worked at Chinese-American Planning Council full-time

    Pros

The amount of vacation employees have is pretty high, vacation days are rollovers, health insurance is decent, work area consider decent size.

    Cons

Pay is way too low. Company a bit messy, boxes everywhere, not too organized, not too confidential. Some employees are a little rude, and nosy.

    Advice to Management

If employee treat company like family/home, should use one day to clean up the company. There are desk where no staff stays, should get rid of those and use the space wisely. Better/upgrade drawers so that documents are put more confidential, and looks nicer and less messier.

I worked at Chinese-American Planning Council

    Pros

You can help others and give back, especially if you are part of the NYC Chinese-American community. Most of the people are friendly and there is a sense of community. Great vacation and health coverage.

    Cons

The pay is pretty low and there's tons and tons of paperwork to take care of. It is somewhat standard with the environment. Limited opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Do additional training for employees and cross training. Be transparent about what is going on throughout the organization.
