I have been working at Choice Hotels part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is good to meet people from different places and learn about different companies that they work for. It's also good when you have guest who are nice and talk to you during your shift. Employee discounts are very helpful when traveling because it helps to save a lot of money.

    Cons

There is really nothing to earn while working. It's hard to get a raise, you do not earn paid time off, and you do not get any benefits. In order to book a room under your employee discount, you have to have your manager send you a link through e-mail, and sometimes they act like you're being bothersome when you ask. At my hotel, there is so much negativity and it an be a very hostile environment. Whereas it used to be...

    Advice to Management

Treat us like adults and professionals. Although the guest are the focus, also value us as employees. Praise us often, rather than focus on the complaints and mistakes. Make us feel more appreciated, and we may actually go even more above and beyond.

I worked at Choice Hotels part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good experience with hotel industry and customer service.

    Cons

If you're going to work at a Choice Hotel, make sure it is an upscale one. Training is weak, management is poor, and hours are less than ideal. The clientele that Choice Hotels brings in is generally low class, which makes the job dissatisfying.

I worked at Choice Hotels part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Will work with varying schedule (i.e. college courses), easy to get extra hours, will teach you a lot of helpful skills (computer software, phone systems, customer management, etc..)

    Cons

High turn-over rate means you are often asked to cover shifts, weekends off are typically reserved for full-time staff, depending on the hotel (choice has a lot of variety in terms of quality) customers can be extremely rude and/or hostile, management tends to be aggressive and/or not caring towards employees, housekeepers treated bad

    Advice to Management

Consider listening to employees and even backing them up.

I worked at Choice Hotels full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You get to work for an individually owned property, therefore making it a personal experience. (This can be a good or bad thing). For me it was very enjoyable.

    Cons

Choice Hotels itself does not seem to care about the overall wellbeing of its employees, but instead only for the money they do or do not bring in. There does not appear to be any loyalty within the company.

    Advice to Management

Care more for the individuals that work for you and give your company the good name it has, instead of thinking of everyone as a dollar sign. (There appears to be no loyalty).
