I worked at ChoiceStream full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very smart CFO and CEO. The CFO knows how to build a business. And the CEO is innovative, energetic and has high, but realistic, expectations. The business side of the company is no nonsense and consistent in their execution. The company has very high hiring standards.

    Cons

Choicestream has the most difficult working environment I have ever experienced. The engineering team is very cynical and a low sense of ownership. As a result, technical problems seem to get patched instead of solved. Some management can be very controlling. All this has led to high attrition.

    Advice to Management

Stop putting up with counter-productive personalities and behaviors. You don't settle for second best in your business practices. So why do so in your choice of staff and the way they treat each other.

Expectations are high. Things move very fast and are sometimes hard to keep track of.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at ChoiceStream full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, smart colleagues, focused/driven executive team, hands-on CEO (Eric Bosco) who is very product focused!

    Cons

Middle management: poor execution, lack of leadership, too focused on titles and trying to get themselves ahead. This makes day-to-day work difficult and distracts from the larger company goals!

I have been working at ChoiceStream full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very clear focus and priority with regard to product and making steady progress. A very innovative culture that is willing to adjust as needed. Extremely open and inviting to new ideas. Management is openly reflective of what is working and what is not. Some really good recent hires.

    Cons

Went through some awkward times launching our second product and not everyone got a clear message about changes as they happened. Management slow to act. Staff and management changes have helped.

    Advice to Management

Don't be timid. Trust your staff and remind them they have the power to make decisions.

I have been working at ChoiceStream full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    • Smart, driven people who are passionate about their work and always up for a challenge • Creative, innovative, fun, fast-paced environment • Beautiful office space in Boston’s thriving Seaport district • Outstanding benefits • Opportunity to work with new and exciting technologies

    Cons

Like with any city, traffic is not always ideal but must say the onsite parking offered to Boston employees as well as a very generous commute subsidy makes up for it!

    Advice to Management

Continue to have company-wide daily war room meetings, weekly stand ups, and monthly goals’ meetings to keep folks in tune with everything going on with campaigns, accounts, etc.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at ChoiceStream full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting and exciting technologies Some smart people with whom to interact Benefits better than most companies

    Cons

Completely disconnected management, only CFO seems to care about building a sustainable business Constant turnover including yearly reductions in force (read, "layoffs for convenience") Lack of focus on products and services

    Advice to Management

The vision has the potential to lead you to success - if you would only take the time to refine it and then stay a course.

     in Cambridge, MA

    I worked at ChoiceStream

    Pros

A great place to learn about the latest technology and trends in the online retail space. In particular Choicestream's personalization technology and product recommendation services are leading edge.

    Cons

Like many internet companies struggling to become profitable or go public Choicestream can change direction quickly (a plus) but leave their employees behind rather than simply develop them as needed. In short, it is a volatile job market in the start-up world and Choicestream is no exception.

    Advice to Management

Management could and should give more consideration to the ongoing development of their employees. Continue development of their partner network should help position Chociestream for future growth.Proving the technology actually works in clear unambiguous terms would be of great help in marketing the companies services.
