I have been working at Christian Aid part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible working - ability to work part-time, flexi-time, from home or compressed hours if agreed by your manager.
Benefits - pension scheme, flexible working, leave allowances, loans...etc.

    Cons

Constant organisational restructuring, leads to high uncertainty and greatly affects staff moral. If you survive this year's restructure, there's no guarantee that you will survive another in a few months time!
    Some HR colleagues very unhelpful.
Double standards and favouritism showed to preferred colleagues/friends. Likely to have a better experience if you have a good manager because a number of key decisions lie in their hands.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff/colleagues fairly, try to integrate or connect with them, as opposed to just looking down from above and above all, lead by example.

I worked at Christian Aid full-time

    Pros

Highly motivated individuals, passionate about ending the injustice of world poverty

    Cons

The passion and energy of people is not strategically aligned to help the organisation achieve great results. It is an organisation of individuals working on passionate individual pet projects.

    Advice to Management

Harness the passion and desire of your people to do justice to poor people and channel that into key corporate initiatives that achieve quantum leap and high impact change.

I have been working at Christian Aid as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Once here, one can learn budgets as best as possible. It is simplified and broken down in bits

    Cons

Communication and planning are very bad in this organization.. There is always a rush in the way things are being done here

    Advice to Management

The organization needs an Organizational Development expert to come in and streamline/organize all processes properly.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Christian Aid as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary is competitive. Local hires' salary in the same range with international hires. Good benefits. Work-life balance is encouraged, not always achieved though. Opportunities are plenty, learning is done systematical

    Cons

Key management problems led to cascaded to poor project handling. In-country capacity was not properly assessed, issues between international and national office not resolved, leading to errors in response and strategy. Systems not robust, not in place, and I'll equipped to handle big portfolios.

    Advice to Management

Need to be more consultative and participatory. Need to ensure robust systems for project management

Highly qualified, very engaged and motivated staff group. Great fun to work with and the supporters are among the most committed you'll meet. Hard to find an organisation with a greater purpose.

    Cons

Senior leadership team have lost direction in recent years. Endless reshuffles at huge expense, to detriment of organisation and mission.
