I worked at Christina School District as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work with people from diverse backgrounds. Children need all kids of teachers to support their learning.

    Cons

You must be efficient in English to learn how to support proficient writers and to increase learning.

    Advice to Management

Try to identify the best fit for the job. If this does not happen then you have not done a good job matching people to their roles.

    Pros

The students who are there to learn
Staff working directly with the students
    Technology when it works

Students who aren't passing the curriculum move to the next grade then graduate

    Advice to Management

    Trust your teachers
Stop wasting money by creating district level positions for your friends
Special Education teachers should get paid more because of the obscene amount of paperwork
Get rid of useless positions at the top before cutting teachers

I have been working at Christina School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You are able to run your classroom in the manner that best suits you. You have the opportunity to work with a challenging, but ultimately wonderful group of students. You have the room for growth within your job as a teacher (leadership positions become available relatively quickly).

    Cons

There is very little effective leadership within the district. The district office is full of under-qualified employees. Curriculum is constantly being realigned with little success. Employees tend to not be empowered or motivated to work to their full potential. The reason that there is an ability to find leadership positions quickly is because there is a high level of employee turn over due to poor staff culture (speaking from the secondary perspective).

    Advice to Management

Build better teams. Find ways to empower your employees. Hire competent employees on the district level.
