    I worked at Christmas Tree Shops (More than a year)

    Pros

    Met some nice people who I enjoyed working with. Met other managers who berated associates in front of customers on the sales floor.

    Cons

    Horrible management tactics , expect more out of everyone that could be done. Managers not on the clock were expected to work 60 hours per week on a regular basis. Some would even work 70 hours with no choice. Stress levels were inhuman and placed on the shoulders of everyone. Rules changed with no explanation or reason and managers talked down to everyone. Many good , respected people have left the company and gone elsewhere. Your opinion means nothing to them, and managers usually stay on until another job can be found. Many bad circumstances to deal with everyday , along with abusive management, and work you can never complete in the time expected. It was okay to talk down and embarrass others in front of customers and other associates , on a daily basis. During the holidays it is impossible to work around the amount of product delivered to the store. This caused many dangerous conditions , stacking product so high and congested together it was at your own risk when you needed to get at customer pickups. Often this process could tie up two associates for 30 minutes digging through other product to get at what you needed. Product was piled eight feet high on some pallets ( VERY BAD) because there was no place to go but up. This company got rid of any confidence you may have exhibited. Annual reviews were a joke , and bad reviews were the normal procedure for even good , hard working associates, Raises were miniscule and many would receive no gain because of a bad review. I would never recommend this company to anyone and refused to even let my own son apply for a part time job.

    Advice to Management

    I would love to give them advice about respect, character, integrity and treating people correctly. Even when someone needs to be disciplined there is a proper way. This company is an example of how you get your own labor force to despise their own company.

    Pros

    the only pro that comes with working at the christmas tree shop is the 20% off for the employees.

    Cons

    Management sucks, there is no easy way to put that. SOME managers care but a lot of the time the managers dont care about their employees. They Dont like to work with their employees with any situation and they dont EVER have a schedule that you can be pleased with. It is like they expect you to NOT be able to even support yourself, let alone a family. There are times that you only get 10 hours a week. It has come to the point that after only 2 months of working for the comany i gave them my resignation letter because of how poor they are.

    Advice to Management

    Work with your employees. If you want to have a business then you need to be able to work with the employees. If there is a problem with the scheduling JUST FIX IT. don't argue, it is understandable that you need certain people on for certain hours but when you aren't willing to work with your employees to better both parties there is an issue. oh and STOP complaining that your employees don't get there job done if you're one of those managers that constantly interrupt your employee from doing there job to do things that you want them to do. let your employees do their job because honestly there is a lot of the time that the employee has a way to get there work done that is very convenient and they are able to get there work done in a timely matter!!!!
