I have been working at Chromalox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company fosters a supportive environment which lends itself to a spirit of cooperation and great teamwork. Colleagues and managers with many years of experience are very receptive to sharing their knowledge and continuous training is offered. The opportunity to spend down time with co-workers after business hours is available, with office lunches offered several times during the year. There are many wonderful people who work here, and I know many of them will be lifelong friends.

    Cons

There is a lack of flexibility with office hours that can be frustrating. Communication from management can always be improved upon.

    Advice to Management

Realizing that your workforce are all adults and can be trusted to keep the best interest of the company and the company's overall success, health and growth paramount would greatly improve morale, job satisfaction, enthusiasm and initiative.

The management will allow you to move up the ranks if you display a reliable attendance record, learn quickly, and have the skills to do so.

I have been working at Chromalox full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some of the people. Best around. Dedicated. Friendly. Technical people here are highly trained and do a great job. Company has a huge potential to be great if ran properly.

    Cons

Upper management changes their mind every five minutes. It is like they are schizophrenic. Not nearly enough resources to do what you are asked to do. Not even close. Insurance coverage is terrible. Too quick to fire people. Employees at the plants have to carry all the burden while Pittsburgh headquarters employees wander around aimlessly trying to figure out what to do.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees better. Low pay, no resources, no direction is not the way to run a company.

I have been working at Chromalox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As the title suggests, the people here are great. Department managers are approachable and easy to talk to. The company has been around just about 100 years now with plenty of industry experience to show for it.

    Cons

Communication is always a struggle. Not a lot of perks or incentives. Needs to have tools and information more accessible to their engineers.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on communication!

    Pros

The people are very encouraging and very helpful. The schedule is very flexible and upper management is very understanding. Everyone at Chromalox is extremely friendly and make work fun.

    Cons

No tuition assistance but other than that, this is a great company to work for!

    Advice to Management

Keep the transparency with your employees! :)

I have been working at Chromalox full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Chromalox provides a very professional work environment, with ample opportunities to utilize and expand on your skill set. People are open, friendly, and approachable. Management is encouraging and totally willing to mentor, coordinate support, or encourage appropriate training to maximize your success. A truly outstanding place to work.

I originally worked here as a consultant, and was happy to be called back for a full-time opportunity.

    Cons

The headquarters is located in RIDC Park area of Pittsburgh, PA, which has notorious traffic issues.

I have been working at Chromalox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The product is interesting, and new opportunities are constantly pushing the boundaries, sometimes to a fault. Fellow coworkers are friendly and easy to associate with.

    Cons

Any love for the company comes from what you can make of it yourself or with those in your department. There's absolutely no correlation to hard work = good rewards. So scrape by doing bare minimum, or push yourself with long hours...makes no difference. Your pay check will arrive on time the same every two weeks.
The popular gripe of little to no opportunity for vertical or even lateral moves is very accurate. In some cases hiring from the outside for positions that could have been easily filled from within.

    Advice to Management

Your employees, at all locations, are what make the business. Focus on them. Happier employees = better productivity.

    Pros

Co workers are friendly and helpful. The company tries in little ways (excellent middle management, fun atmosphere). I like what I do every day and I learn more every day. If you're looking for a predictable and stable career you will find it here.

    Cons

The company doesn't try in big ways (higher salaries, career upward mobility). But some of us are not looking to break through the glass ceiling. It is not a very big company but is big enough to offer broad experience.

    Advice to Management

Value all levels of employees, recognize that your employees are very dedicated and hardworking. Don't look the other way when you see communication problems.

    I worked at Chromalox full-time

    Pros

The product is very interesting, and the work is technically demanding

    Cons

The company is very much a sales and engineering company. They put no emphasis or resources into operations and manufacturing. They let the brightest people, the ones who can make the most impact to success go when times get financially tough.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to get a clue about Lean Manufacturing
