I worked at Chubb full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

good pay, great benefits. Great location, (downtown Chicago) . Matching 401k,(up to a point) great health insurance. Being part of a respected name in the insurance industry.

    Cons

The merger of the two companies, now one corporation, has left a lot of people literally out in the cold and out of a job, myself included!

    Advice to Management

I have none.since I know nothing about the new, expanded organization.

    Pros

Some amazing people work here and still care about the customer. The level of creativity and innovation is high. The brand is strong.

    Cons

The merger has not worked. There are still two different pay scales and systems. Management was not and is not clear on which culture, workforce or systems will become the new Chubb. Instead they split the baby on all decisions arriving at the worst of both company. The desk employees are losing 30% of their workday to this nonsense and is getting worse by the day.

    Advice to Management

Rip off the bandaid. Finish the merger work so the employees who remain can get back to work.

    I worked at Chubb full-time

    Pros

Overall ACE/Chubb was a great company to work for over the past five years. They compensated me well right out of college and allowed me to move across the country and stay with the company. My first manager was very helpful in educating me on the insurance industry. I completed my CPCU, which they paid for, and I was encouraged to attend the annual graduation ceremony.

    Cons

Chubb is such a large company and it is very segmented. Smaller insurance companies seem to have people wearing more than one hat - underwriting 9-12 coverage lines, helping out with other divisions and learning more from those experiences. Chubb has you underwriting 1-4 products at most. Their divisions do not interact with one another and you do not learn about any other product lines than the ones you underwrite. It was a great place to start my career but I wanted more versatility in my day to day tasks. Also, my last manager was in the office one day every two weeks. It was difficult to establish a relationship and perform well for someone who did not care to show up to work.

    Advice to Management

Senior level management was often unapproachable. In quarterly company meetings, we were asked to come up with questions and Evan Greenberg almost always made you feel as if your question was not worthy of his time.

I have been working at Chubb full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Huge, financially stable company. Lots of opportunity throughout the country. Good work/life balance, remote working. Lots of confusion when navigating around the company.

    Cons

The company has many years ahead of itself post merger for the dust to settle. The "Chubb" company is gone. You will be worked to death and get a 2% raise after you hit your goals. If someone tells you differently, they haven't worked there long enough or came from the ACE side. Too much politics with Senior management and promotions are very biased.

    Advice to Management

Learn to keep solid, hard working employees, through promotional opportunities. Be fair about promotions as this is our career. People will be leaving and no one will be left to underwrite the work.

I worked at Chubb full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work was interesting and had a lot of variety. People were friendly. Good benefit package. Good work - life balance.

    Cons

Too much political posturing. Too many meetings involving too many people, many of whom didn't need to be involved. Salary was low. Little opportunity for growth.

    Advice to Management

Meetings are necessary, but to be effective the decision makers should be present and participate. If one person is performing a task you don't need twelve others from around the world on a conference call talking about it.
