I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people that are always willing to help, and flexible work environment. Competitive pay and benefits. Excellent amount of PTO and encouraged work life balance.

    Cons

Slow to change, tough to see career path for the long term. Technology for employees is not top notch for a technology company.

I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with, solid leadership, great products, global in scope and thought. Benefits among the best I've come across in my career. Very people-focused culture.

    Cons

Can be a bit siloed and fragmented organizationally. Geographic dispersion and functional alignment is largely the culprit. Not really a serious negative.

    Advice to Management

Do what you can to encourage cross-functional teaming.

I have been working at Ciena full-time

    Pros

    - work/life balance
    - easy to slack as long as you get your tasks done every month
    - nice benefits

    Cons

    - salary (I make way less than my friends who have the same title as me at companies in the same area)
    - hard to get a promotion even if you work your butt off

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to cut costs and reward the talent that is already at the company. Promote from within. People shouldn't have to leave and even come back in order to get a bump in title / salary. Full-time employees shouldn't be demoted to contractors in order to save money...

Inspiring leadership, the employees are highly motivated and efficient. It's a pleasure to work with people who are dedicated to always improving and high productivity. Their is a spirit of collaborative that is unmatched. Work/life balance is encouraged and they are dedicated to not only improving the customer experience, but also the employee experience. Very flexible

    Cons

Could improve in diversity of leadership

I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people who work hard and go the extra mile. Good products and customer relationships. Flexible work arrangements abound. Decent pay.

    Cons

Political shenanigans and hypocrisy the higher you go. But I'm not sure that's not the case everywhere. Benefits have been curtailed as of late with ho-hum bonuses even as profits improve.

    Advice to Management

Don't just talk the talk. Demand more of senior managers and let the rewards trickle down a bit more. Consider hiring from within.

I have been working at Ciena full-time

    Pros

    1. Ciena does a great job of taking care of its employees. 2. The benefits are amazing (such as 16 weeks of paid maternity leave). 3. Management is very open as well as understanding. 4. Work hours are flexible if that is needed.

    Cons

Writing annual goals is a lot of work.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Stable environment(at least appears so)

    Cons

Those who work are rewarded with more work and eventually get into trouble
Those who don't work are allowed to get by.
Compensation is not performance based but based on seniority and level of experience

Middle management does not convey issues brought out by engineers to upper level management

    Advice to Management

Man up and reward performers. Don't reward people just for having more years of experience. Distribute work evenly, do not over burden performers
