    I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Company is really good.
    Good facility and transport.
    Good salary and ctc apart benefits.
    Technical work or R&D Processes is good.

    Cons

    Lots of cons. (Services Pricing Process)
    All back office work not useful to make career.
    Worst Management.
    Too much politics.
    Hire and fire.
    Not good for girls. ( you know what I mean)

    Advice to Management

    Change SBC management. They are spoiling a nice team.

    Pros

    Money, 401k, and health insurance are great

    Cons

    Very poor management for product development
    Horrible work/life balance - AKA weekends, 12+ hour days
    Siloed development and no culture to speak of
    No opportunity for career advancement/development
    Tools are not given to do job properly

    Advice to Management

    Listen and trust your employees. This is why so many are quitting right now.

    Pros

    Great colleague.
    Good Pay and benefits package.

    Cons

    A lot of giving and no receiving.
    Planning is non existing, everything has to be solved at the last minute.
    No training or growth oportunities.
    Contractors are treated as outcasts.

    Listen to your employees, happy people deliver a better service.

    Pros

    Positive atmosphere. Company and management are directed towards business goals.

    Cons

    Electrical engineers in software roles. Lower than average pay for the industry. Education plays an inflated role in career development (vs performance).

    Advice to Management

    Hire software developers for software roles.

    Pros

    Good flexibility
    Nice to be able to Telecommute
    Decent Work life balance if your not a global employee
    If your a global employee get ready to work all hours of the day

    Cons

    Terribly incompetent HR team
    Pay for non-engineering roles is not competitive
    Absolutely no pay transparency
    Internal job board is outdated and does not provide enough info for those looking to transfer
    For all of their talk about 'people plans' and all of the survey's we fill out very little is actually done to increase employee morale
    No real career growth/progression opportunities
    If you do transfer into a new role HR does NOT allow you the necessary market correction of your salary - A lot of underpaid transfers
    Cost of benefits has risen quite a bit YoY
    Internal tech and hardware is despicable considering it is a TECH company
    Newly appointed COO is making decisions that baffle most
    Outsourcing jobs to India

    Advice to Management

    Put your money where your mouth is.
    Overhaul the HR department.

    Learn and work on new technology.

    Cons

    Very low pay, gearing toward exporting all the jobs overseas.

    Advice to Management

    Shame on you, how can you participate in the destruction of the economy and the country that made you what you are now, just a matter of time you will eventually find yourself jobless in the street.
