I have been working at Ciena full-time

    Pros

    - work/life balance
    - easy to slack as long as you get your tasks done every month
    - nice benefits

    Cons

    - salary (I make way less than my friends who have the same title as me at companies in the same area)
    - hard to get a promotion even if you work your butt off

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to cut costs and reward the talent that is already at the company. Promote from within. People shouldn't have to leave and even come back in order to get a bump in title / salary. Full-time employees shouldn't be demoted to contractors in order to save money...

I worked at Ciena (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to work remotely and without being micro managed.

    Cons

I was laid off one day before I would have been eligible to receive my annual bonus. Nice, huh? Lack of communication and a lot of disconnect within the team.

I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture of the company is great! People are nice and have professional attitude. The company has some good packages and benefits.

    Cons

The salary is not competetive. And the rewarding and promotion system is very slow. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how much pressure you successfully handle; they make some excuses to not give you a raise and it causes losing motivation after a year or so. On the other hand, it is an excellent place for carefree people who are used to working no more than an hour a day!!! I work about 11 hrs a day handling multiple difficult tasks in my level of experience and they have no other one to replace if I leave the team but they are very hard on me when it comes to promotion. I have no motivation to continue like this after 1.5 yr of working.

    Advice to Management

Identify the smart and hardworking people that you need more and support them. With the current management system all smart people just run away from the company
