I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and culture - very competitive and engaged environment. Good career growth opportunities with rotational programs. Relaxed yet competitive.

    Cons

None. None. None. None. None. None. None. The location in CT might not be attractive to everyone. Definitely lacks the city feel.

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent. Because they pay well they think they can mistreat their employees. No other pros. Health insurance they provide to their own employees is a joke with high deductibles.

    Cons

    Internal Politics
    No path for career advancement
    Management is dysfunctional
High employee turnaround because they mistreat employees
    HR is a joke
    IT is a nightmare

    Advice to Management

Provide career advancement to high performers instead of hiring external hires that struggle to navigate and influence.

  3. "Avoid this place, micromanagement comes from disqualified managers"

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

learning new stuff but not much of use!

    Cons

poor management, assigning inexperienced and disqualified people without any training for managerial and lead position. Bonus, raise and promotions only available through friendship, relatives and networking with former colleagues, no respect for knowledge, and work experience, micromanagement, difficult to get promotion if you dont know one of the bosses or leads!!!!!

    Advice to Management

do not promote your friends and people with no IT experience in IM section!!! micromanagement is for people who dont know their jobs! hire qualified people and you dont need to micromanage minor things like 5 min late login!!!!

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you know someone who can give you a leg up, this place loves backdoor promotions.
    Pay can be decent.
Probably not as bad as other health insurance companies.

    Cons

Hard work does not always result in success.
Leadership does not respond well to criticism.
    Nepotism is rampant.
Minorities are often passed over for promotion.
For an insurance company, they offer pretty poor coverage for employees.

    Advice to Management

Do more. Reward based on merits not connections.

    Pros

Loved my co-workers. Good flexibility. Thought my compensation was very fair. Very good career mobility internally. Employee welfare benefits were solid.

    Cons

There are still some of the long time workers who are quite entrenched and not particularly pleasant to work with. But that's increasingly rare as they begin to retire.

    Advice to Management

There probably could have been some more courageous decision making made with regards to offering some highly compensated employees a soft place to land until they retired. Some stood in the way of getting things done.

    Pros

Great Salary, Benefits, 401k, flexible work schedule, and understanding managers with a family first attitude. Sky is the limit if your dedicated, passionate, and want to exceed.

    Cons

There are no negative comments I can think of! I love going to work

    Advice to Management

I enjoy working for Cigna and your open door policy is greatly appreciated! The fact that Senior executives stop by on Thanksgiving & Christmas morning to thank us because we are working means more than you will ever know!

I worked at Cigna full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very disciplined about strategy and markets to serve. Competitive pay and benefits structure. Reasonable training programs although most is learn as you go. Trying to establish work/life balance but not fully there.

    Cons

Matrix structure makes it difficult to get things done at times. Very focused on quarter,y earnings estimates which may limit strategic activities. Work force reductions have become standard course of action.

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They provide many options for work/life balance such as flexible work arrangements, compressed work week. Good allotment of PTO days.

    Cons

Not too much focus on promoting within the organization. Difficult for employees to advance to leadership levels. Each organization has different priorities and despite the continuous efforts to retain talent, not much has been rolled out across the company for managers to make this a priority.

    Advice to Management

Good leadership ensures that their staff is positioned for success and stands by them even when the results are not what was expected. Sometimes what was asked initially turns out to not be a realistic expectation and therefore leadership needs to be flexible enough to work with any changes coming as a result of any given situation.
