      Pros

good benefits, decent pay, leads and supervisors are all great and very nice, work from home ability

      Cons

corporate is extremely out of touch with the people doing the job. Constant changes that just make your job harder and then your performance metrics never change even if stuff is added to what you have to do on your calls and what you have to do after your calls. If you want to be micromanaged to the point where you go insane you should do this job. If you want emails about being out of your schedule adherence by .03% do this job. If you never want to be recognized for doing a good job and have your call coaches CONSTANTLY give you progressing notes when you had a great call do this job. If you actually care about the customer and want to make sure they have a good experience that is truly focused on them and not just about what the procedures say to the letter this job is not for you. Also, if you want to have your raises taken away you should work here.

      Pros

Cigna is very tech-centric and makes good use of their vast dataset for innovative purposes, helping to improve patient outcomes and not just the bottom line. There are some very smart people working at Cigna. Management, in my area at least, is very good at insulating the teams from unnecessary noise, but keeping us abreast of what is important. There is plenty of freedom to determine the direction of future development; I have always felt empowered in that way. Upper management at Cigna is also very socially conscious and very quickly reacts to the social climate, setting an example for the rest of the company and making plenty of room for discussion, without going overboard on political correctness. As an example, Cigna was very flexible in dealing with COVID, and also gave employees extra paid time off for that and for dealing with recent justice issues. Cigna also give paid time off each year to be used for community volunteering.

      Cons

Cigna's agile implementation is a bit too waterfall-ish. I have seen great strides in this area since I have been there, but there are still growing pains. Also, there is a mini-Kingdom/Guild mentality in many of the devops spaces, making it sometimes very difficult to get infrastructure in place for new development. Most engineering teams have the talent to quickly develop new services as part of new app or while decoupling current stacks, but the process of getting those deployed takes easily 10 times the effort. Too much of the architecture is very tightly coupled making it difficult to reuse existing solutions, and there are too many roadblocks to improving that. Cigna recently spun off a new company called Evernorth, emcompassing engineering and other portions of the original company. The reasons for this are unclear and may be benign, but it generally doesn't leave anyone with a good feeling.

      Stay Away Unless Desperate

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      Work From Home, Scheduling Flexibility

      Cons

Unrealistic expectations on employees, micromanagement, poor opportunity for advancement, poor pay, poor health benefits, poor retirement matching, unhappy culture, and high burn out. Every employee I know in this department has worked through their breaks and after hours even when overtime isn't available (i.e. employees didn't receive compensation for time worked in order to meet metrics). When unrealistic metrics aren't met, employees are let go (sometimes without much warning and in humiliating ways). Terrible work life balance. Diversity and inclusion doesnt include any anti-racism work. Senior leadership is mostly white men. Senior leadership held an LGBTQIA+ panel without including any LGBTQIA+ people and didn't take feedback & questions seriously. Leadership speaks poorly of and makes jokes about our customers using benefits for mental health/ illness. CEO townhalls are all lip service and no action. No opportunities for expanding skills that would be conducive to career growth. If you must accept a role here, leave as soon as you can.
