I have been working at CipherCloud (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent security product, free Friday lunch and smart co-workers.

    Cons

CipherCloud is a company that runs on "Kool-aid." Too often, you hear the term "rocket ship" being thrown around. However, There is far too much drama within the management team for any employee to grow - business and engineering people included. Management refuses to believe competitors offer similar, if not better products. This rocket ship is going nowhere fast.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and hire management members that are honest, respectable and experienced.

I worked at CipherCloud full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for the company for over a year. It is a startup and they have some perks like free lunches on Fridays and some snacks, but that is it. Most of the non-management team is good and have fun but the management team makes it hard to do your job.

    Cons

The executive and management team is horrible. They rule by fear and confusion. I had multiple managers at any given time I reported to. I got different direction all the time from the multiple managers/executives which caused confusion for everyone else. The manager/executives didn't trust each other which is what caused a lot of the confusion. The management was horrible in giving employees annual reviews and any guidance. They brought new management in from large companies like Oracle and SFDC which even caused more confusion and lowered the employees morale. I tried to go to HR about my concerns but I was ignored. Many employees were fired for speaking up.

it is known within the company that the CEO is always looking for replacements for every member of the company and the executive team does not hesitate to use this to scare employees. Instead of trying to replace good employees they should focus on helping the employees grow and work on making the product work.

No training for new team members, they try and low ball you on salary when you start, and the benefits are just ok.

With all the awesome startups this company should get their act together since they already see really high turnover.

    Advice to Management

They need a strong leader that can actually lead and help the company and employees flourish instead of employees being in fear of losing their jobs all the time.

Executives from large companies are not a good fit for startup environments since they have no clue how to grow a new team and new product in a new market. The management team should think about actually looking for talent from high growth startups.

I have been working at CipherCloud full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food and parking. Coworkers mostly are nice.

    Cons

Accepting offer from CipherCloud means you're property of company. You should expect 18 hour days, work on weekends and holidays fixing code written by freshers offshore, and a sweatshop workplace where you can be fired for suggesting the product is broken. The solution to every problem is to hire more middle managers and executives. Many employees resign shortly after they're hire. Many avoid the office and work at home. Pay is low and little equity is given to employees. Talented engineers should stay away.

    Advice to Management

Let the employees who build the "rocket" ship for you to board it.

    Pros

Good employees to work with but I heard it is bad culture in San Jose headquarters office

    Cons

Executives know background of the person and wont do anything about it. Employees don't understand and have lost respect for company leaders.

    Advice to Management

Save the company. Make hard decisions. Happy to no longer be part of it.

I worked at CipherCloud (Less than a year)

    Pros

I suppose the free snacks they offer.

    Cons

Please don't believe the positive reviews that have posted on this company in the last 12 months. If you are a smart enough professional you will be able to tell that they are planted reviews. You will note that many of the other reviewers have pointed this out. This is HR /Marketing trying to manipulate the system. Very obvious they are trying to boost the "star" ranking on Glassdoor which really should be NO stars for Ciphercloud.

I started with the company and basically was told a bunch of lies. Product Quality isn't existent. You will ruin your reputation if you are in sales - in my honest opinion. If you like to lie to customers then this is the place for you!

If you should choose to punish yourself and interview with this company then ask them to talk to a happy satisfied large scale enterprise customer for every product that they promote on their website. You will soon find out the facts. You will be told a bunch of fluff to get you to drink the kool-aid and convince you that they are a great company. I was fooled and quickly realized I needed out - so I left.

Key to note....their "Partner" isn't CipherCloud friendly but you will told otherwise when you interview. Any spin to put a positive impression on the company.

The Executive Mgmt. is a joke and I mean joke. A toddler could run CipherCloud better then what they currently have. They have an Executive who has been accused of unprofessional conduct and has had major legal issues in the past. Do a check on your own or better yet just ask a former employee.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul of all Executive Staff needed - bring in someone who knows how to grow a company and oh by the way.....it is ok to spend the investors $$$ --- Leadership isn't existent and you have a CEO who doesn't like to be in front of customers. This company has no values.

I worked at CipherCloud full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Many coworkers are great.

You get 10 days of vacation, which is a pro because it's a ceiling on how many days you can be harassed by managers for using.

    I left.

    Cons

The one star reviews are accurate. Lies begin during the interview process. Since they're constantly scrambling to replace employees who quit, they tell you anything to get you to accept below market offer. Upon joining you quickly realize lies were just that, and the cycle continues as employees resign creating urgency to restaff roles. On the bright side you will have plenty of people to commiserate with in the office.

The culture of the company is private mens club. If you are one of the handful of member, life is great. Unfortunately most employees aren't.

The revolving door and incredibly high turnover is probably why they've hired HR, but make no mistake about it HR exists to protect the company. if you have a problem you may as well tell the CEO directly.

The product is perhaps the worst I have ever seen. Bugs are hard to fix because it usually turns out documentation was wrong, QA was incomplete, and coding by offshore engineers lazy and full of typos.

    Advice to Management

If you wish to salvage this company, bring in a new CEO and empower them to build their own team and reshape the company. Stop operating at HQ like it Hyderabad.

I have been working at CipherCloud (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Some nice people there
    - Nice views of the world outside you'll never get to see
    - Bathrooms are well lit

    Cons

    - Leadership is frighteningly incompetent
    - Leadership is very unethical
    - Product breaks almost always during implementation
    - Marketing team sits in echo chamber and does next to nothing

    Advice to Management

    - Use the $50 to hire a real CEO, CMO
    - Look in the mirror, recognize that your strengths should lie in your ability to recognize your weaknesses
    - Shelve the IPO strategy (you'll never get to $100M) and sell. Now.

I have been working at CipherCloud full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance for sales team. Since most of them couldn't hit their numbers, they hit LinkedIn instead.

    Cons

Management is oblivious - to what employees, partners and customers think of them, to the direction the market is going, and to the basics of running a successful technology company. They had a legitimate 2 year lead on the competition in a potentially huge market and are rapidly finding themselves caught and surpassed on every front. The employee attrition they have seen in the last 12 months should scare both management and recruits.

    Advice to Management

Sell (now) - you will never take this company public.

I have been working at CipherCloud full-time

    Pros

-Get to work with some great people and make good friends
-Nice view from 11th floor in downtown San Jose

    Cons

-Extremely political culture that starts at the top. CEO sets a bad tone with his direct staff and it trickles down.
-Buggy product that doesn't work nearly as well as claimed.
-Company treats customers and partners as hostile adversaries. Hence there is an unhappy customer base and the largest partner is working on their own product and invested in a CipherCloud competitor.
-Horrible morale exacerbated by a recent huge layoff. They brought in a well-respected SVP of HR to reduce attrition (which is ridiculously high) and help change the culture. She quit after 6 months due to frustration at being ignored.
-Sales team spends more time on golf course and LinkedIn than selling due to lousy product and the fact they've been without a Head of Sales for about 6 months. Red flag.
-No one can articulate a single coherent strategy for the company. Hence, there is none.
-No equity upside. IPO won't happen.

    Advice to Management

Everyone knows what needs to be done. Start at the top.
