I worked at Circuit City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Got to sell electronics. Not too much pressure.

    Cons

    No longer in business.

    Advice to Management

Should have done whatever b.b. did to stay in business.

I worked at Circuit City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good culture and process focused on customer service. Great product selection and compensation for sales associates. Commissioned environment was their edge as associates would lose their commission if they did not qualify and sell the appropriate products to customers.

    Cons

They got scared when best buy expanded into multiple markets. Eliminated commission which was their edge. The associates did not have motivation to provide great service and sell appropriate products without commissions and Best Buys ate their lunch.

    Advice to Management

You blew it - should have embraced commissioned sales force and stressed strengths instead of trying to become best buy. This is why you went out of business.

    Pros

The products were fun. The employees were great to work with. They had great benefits. Oh and the discount was nice too.

    Cons

The company didn't change its marketing and imaging fast enough to keep up with the competitive landscape and lost out.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on your competition and try to stay ahead with innovation.

I worked at Circuit City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

While the stores are gone, Circuit City was always honest to its employees. I felt valued and always heard by my managers. When the stores closed, they provided plenty of notice to us employees.

    Cons

The physical stores may be closed now but the website is still functioning. The company attempted to expand too quick and implement new marketing ideas without knowing what their customers really needed.

    Advice to Management

I would attempt to reach out to the customers and listen to what they really want. This will help to provide a better scope and give management the better idea of how to reach their customers.

    Cons

Company went under. Some terrible customers. Some terrible employees. Not a career

    Advice to Management

Bring back SMART and PASSIONATE employees and pay them to be that way. Minimum wage gets minimum labor.

I worked at Circuit City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company, innovative, great training programs. Kept things lean, but also had wonderful cafeteria. Central operations were all in fairly close range, so not much travel was involved. Open door policy that was comfortable to work with

    Cons

The IT department was a little 'Dilbert' like. Standard builds were kept to technology that was several years old, and would change frequently.

    Advice to Management

Training was great, much appreciated! Standards could have used a little more advise from the tech staff, going to the rock bottom line on price on hardware is not always a good idea. High level mismanagement, or mismatch of software / equiptment to the purpose at hand tended to get blamed on the person who carried out the orders, not the source who actually made the decisions.
