I have been working at Cirrus Logic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits like parties, happy hour, and fitness classes. Company is growing and building a campus downtown. Work is challenging and fun. Coworkers form a good team.

    Cons

Consumer electronics ICs is a tough business: demanding customers, lots of competitors. Austin is expensive for Texas and presents a commuting challenge.

    Advice to Management

Keep winning and looking for growth. Grow catalog customers if it makes sense.

I worked at Cirrus Logic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a nice office building in downtown, and the employees get pampered with many perks, including Happy Hour drinks, and tickets to musical events like SXSW.

    Cons

The management is terribly inconsistent, fosters favoritism and there is plenty of politics. Good work is not acknowledged. Instead, in many groups, like the Design Verification group, some people in management with big egos target engineers towards their personal agendas. I was not even given a fair performance evaluation.
The management can be very sneaky and dishonest. A few years earlier, I was made an offer in their Tucson, AZ office. When I asked about sustainability of that business in Tucson, I was given a rosy picture. About 3 weeks after I was made that offer, they shut down the Tucson office. I'm glad I had not taken their offer!
They have limited product offerings, in only a single market, with only one major customer.

    Advice to Management

I would urge you to look at certain groups like the Design Verification group, in which some people get promoted to be managers only because they are technically good. It takes a lot more to be a good manager than technical competence.

I worked at Cirrus Logic as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

They treats their employee really well as a company.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

    Advice to Management

The senior management should pay close attention to their contractor worker. Offers them a full time if they are working harder compares to a long time full time employee

I have been working at Cirrus Logic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting and Challenging Projects to Work on

    Cons

This used to be a great place to work at until, under pressure from the investment community to diversify away from Apple, executives decided to purchase Wolfson Electronics for $500 million. Unfortunately, Wolfson was not profitable and had a large costly European workforce. Nonetheless, Cirrus went ahead with the purchase, thus doubling their headcount size while keeping their revenue about the same and barely making a dent in their Apple dependency.
Consequently, HR has been relying on attrition and layoffs to keep cost under control.
Also, it's important to note that the CEO is consumed by these America's best workplace surveys. He provides free beer and free ice cream to employees to boost morale and get high scores on these rankings. Not sure exactly why, unless his compensation is tied to it, which is a pretty sad state of affairs.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the basics of what made Cirrus a great place once upon a time.
Stop worrying about these workplace surveys. What has it gotten you?
Admit to your mistakes, fix them, and move on.

I worked at Cirrus Logic full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice atmosphere, good benefits, mostly relaxed management, great pay. Nice building with really good equipment in lab and parking is usually easy to get in time of day.

    Cons

Marketing team will make product definitions that have features that are not what the customers needs or wants.
Middle managers need more training on how to lead and not just act like petty dictators of their own little fiefdom

    Advice to Management

Do not start projects that contain too many features. If it is a multi-purpose chip, always have a way to turn off and isolate features that may not be needed by every customer.

I worked at Cirrus Logic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall Cirrus Logic is a good company with great facilities, perks, and benefits.

    Cons

I think the individual experience can vary quite significantly based on the division you are working in, and unfortunately working in the MSA Division is a trip back to the 60's in terms of gender equality. I've never felt the 'good ole boys' club as strongly as I did at this company, nor have I ever witnessed so many blatant cases of harassment or discrimination. If the managers are required to take harassment training, it is falling on deaf ears, and there is no true accountability.

Consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in Austin, and it deserves this rank. Free on-site happy hours every week, no dress code, on-site gym, wellness programs, incredible health benefits, live music monthly, fun/cool co-workers

    Cons

The work-life balance can be brutal at times dependent upon client needs.
