I worked at Cisco Systems part-time

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Diversity is top of the list of importance at Cisco. The company is looking for new talent all the time. If you are one who loves change in technology, Cisco is a company for you.

    Cons

You have to know someone to move up in the organization. 80% of the time it is who you know and not what you know. Very political like most big companies.

I love our diverse talent, too! I find that Cisco employees everywhere are always willing to be a contact, a mentor, a helpful rung on the ladder, we just have to make the effort to navigate to the... More

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cisco pays pretty well and offers good flexibility and some perks, and some of the administrative things work surprisingly well for such a giant corporation. Cisco does a lot of good work in the community and encourages staff to give back to various charities, etc. and does a good job of promoting mobility across job functions, etc.

    Cons

There is a constant threat of a "Limited Restructuring" - nearly every year, you will lose some colleagues if not your own job, which absolutely kills morale. They make a lot of noise about how great their culture is - which if you have to say it so often, means it is likely not the case. They can be completely tone-deaf, for example, scheduling all-hands, AMA-type town-hall meetings with execs on the same days they're laying off hundreds of people, making "The People Deal" complete BS.

    Advice to Management

The effort to re-cast itself as a SW company is sensible, but it will require a better understanding of how that industry works. Cisco got huge by selling technology everyone needed as the internet age grew, but that approach will not work now.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and inspirational new CEO. Work from home policy is good. Too big to fail, as in nobody else has e2e portfolio plus war chest to fill major gaps

    Cons

High job insecurity. Lay offs every quarter. Short term focus always. Passive aggressive US sales culture. Major internal focus as a consequence of historically being a Partner led sales structure

    Advice to Management

Actually I think Chuck is on the right track but will take time
