I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good compensation,benefits, working environment.
Generally great people - never short of an expert, or help.
Good balance for freedom of role and autonomy.

    Cons

    Lots of politics
Very slow career progress...sideways can be ok, but upwards extremely slow and difficult
Lots of layers of management - arguably too many vs individual contributors.
Still very much a Box shifter - transition to solutions / software is slow. Still has an infrastructure heavy mindset.
    Slow changes/decision making.
Company Strategy not quick to respond to market transitions, or be executed quickly enough
Annual "Restructure", morale is not great. No position is safe, and executed rather randomly without backing up the rationale behind the restructure in place first.
Redundancy Settlement packages are very poor for such a respected organisation, leaving many with a bad feeling.

    Advice to Management

Sharpen the strategy, execute quicker (and do what you're telling the market)

    Pros

I love my job and the fact that you need to constantly upgrade your skills at Cisco. My manager is very knowledgable and amazing with sharing his knowledge.

    Cons

Lots of people laid off every year, I feel quite unsecure at times as this is not based on your performance but purely on your role to the business..

    Advice to Management

Please give more time to people when you know you are going to get rid of them..

I worked at Cisco Systems as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Meaningful work, can learn a lot and get to work with a great team of interns plus all the staff were very willing to help.

Tonnes of activities, volunteering, meals out, musical, BBQ etc. so lots of fun.

All travel and (very nice) accommodation paid for as well as some other expenses

    Overall a really enjoyable experience!

    Cons

Sometimes work could get repetitive or be quite difficult and time consuming. You could end up spending a lot of time outside your hours on work.

    Advice to Management

Really enjoyed the internship, if anything maybe make it longer so it's a bit less fast paced but still great.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredible engineering team. Incredible sales force. Great culture.

    Cons

Annual redundancy process makes for a miserable and uncertain workforce. The company answers too much to shareholders,

The company does not know what it wants to be.

    Advice to Management

Remove the management layers. Far too much politics. If you have to measure ICs/teams, do so based on results and not marketing/visibility/upwards-management.
