    Pros

A lot of self development opportunities, information, trainings.

    Cons

Hardly someone will drive you to a better career.

Being able to retain talent and go back to old Cisco days.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You'll have autonomy to be your best. You'll be proud of the company's influence in the tech world. A big company with many places to fit in. You can stay a long time and move around.

    Cons

It depends where you sit, when. Marketing, for example has been going through an ugly upheaval in the past year. Lots of layoffs, weak leadership.

    Advice to Management

Use your institutional knowledge. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water when the Grand Strategy changes.

I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very Dynamic, PMs manage every project, Geographically dispersed.

    Cons

At least of the ranks of engineers and mid-management, everything is rules by the charge number. If its active and billable, you pretty safe. If it suddenly becomes inactive (such as Verizon fios causing an all-stop, after their tech trials in Buffalo failed, you may well be laid off, particularly if you're a consultant - they don't even bother looking (remember the race to the charge number thing).

    Advice to Management

Remember the race to the charge number thing.
You're letting stop of your best investments, or talent - go.
    Its musical chairs

    Pros

Good pay with a good open environment.

    Cons

Politics is a big problem and political animals do well there.

    Advice to Management

Clear the table of "politicos" and reward people based on merit and contributions, not their ability to play the game.

    Pros

Big brand, easy to get customer engagement, broad product line, tons of resources, good career movement opportunities, global, good benefits, good PTO.

    Cons

Too much process, confusing, difficult to navigate or get support. They outsource IT support internationally, mostly India, and many times it is difficult just to communicate.

    Advice to Management

    Streamline

I worked at Cisco Systems as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Contracted here for a couple of years and learnt a bunch of things. Very knowledgeable employees who are willing to teach others at least the team I worked in.

    Cons

I got caught up in the moment and forgot to look after myself. I was in a position that wore too many hats and never got into a specialty.

    Advice to Management

Give contractors a chance after 12 months of work. Its not fair to serve for so long to be thrown out into the street.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Specific teams have great people, I'm sure this is true of any company. Really good work-life balance since virtual culture was embraced long ago. Hiring from outside brings fresh perspectives.

    Cons

Lack of diversity, and a diversity office/leaders that has little idea of what it does but catch phrases that make it appear as if it's doing something. Should be entirely revamped with people who truly care about diverse workforces and perform. Ongoing policy of laying off an older workforce. It's sad to see great partners being let go over the past 4-5 years. Migrating internal technologies get launched too often, right when we get a grip on the one that was just launched.

    Advice to Management

Layoffs cut the company's intellectual property since they focus on older workers with experience and know how. Treat teams equally based on performance and balance promoting from within with hires from outside.
