I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cisco leadership is passionate about the employee experience and invests time/resources in the employee resource organizations.
Ability to shape and drive initiatives that directly impact Cisco's people culture.
    Developing my leadership skills.

    Cons

Large company with flexible work style makes coordinating within and across employee resource groups challenging.
No digitized employee insights tool to properly track employee experience and high potential areas of impact.

    Advice to Management

Remove political roadblocks(people/teams/contracts) that impede work on our most critical programs.
Continue investing in the employee experience, and further digitize the HR space so we can more accurately track our potential or lack of for innovation with relation to the demographic of our company, supported by the data.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible, Role Exploration, Supportive, Inclusive,Forward-Thinking, Progressive,Opportunties to Lead, Talent Recruitment, ESPP, EROs, Career Advisory Programs

    Cons

Seperation by FT/Contract (contractors seen as irrelevant at times), Not a lot of traveling

    Advice to Management

As an Early In Career, Black Female Engineer, I have been blessed to work for such an amazing and inclusive company. My advice for management would be that you all should make more of an effort to understand those that report to you. Understand their strengths and weakness, and help position them for roles/opportunities that best align. 1:1 conversations shouldn't just happen with direct managers, but also with Directors and others in Senior Management. Allow your employees to grow and go, so they can continue to grow their skillset and you can continue to grow leaders.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, nice people layered across the motivation.

    Cons

Hardly no motivation to improve. Company culture heavily focused on layoffs. Rigid "promo freezes" create weird culture where managers open "new reqs" to promote people instead of simply rewarding top contributors. Loosen up the OpEx and you will likely retain top talent, thereby driving revenue growth.

    Advice to Management

You don't promote top talent. You are too focused on cutting headcount and operating expenses and yet you wonder why revenue continues to decline yearly. Not really a rocket science problem here. Also, it's a bad look when you have "promotion freezes" and yet you give VPs and SVPs huge RSUs. The Canada Sales VP gets a 500K signing bonus, yet you can't give out a 5K bonus to any of your workers? Poor money management. Focus on rewarding top contributors or else they will leave.
