I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Big company, big resources that's relatively stable now following the financial crisis. Career opportunities worldwide. In general, Citi operates as a meritocracy.

    Cons

Bureaucracy means getting things done takes quite a bit of perseverance. Post financial crisis the amount of regulatory oversight and internal compliance requirements are quite burdensome.

    Advice to Management

All the internal oversight and compliance-related "helpers" hired over the past couple years are not helping the bank grow.

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Nice people to work with

    Cons

There is always something new to learn, and not because you want to, but because there's a new boss in town in a department you interact with. Internal battles are nonstop. Supplier management processes are so poorly managed, there is no path to success. Partners are not pleased with internal delays and it affects overall job satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate existing departments and processes before implementing a better mousetrap. Sometimes you just need to change the bait!

I worked at Citi (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits, Competitive Salary, Nice commute if you live in west suburbs of Chicago.

    Cons

Indians hire only Indians. Chinese hire only Chinese. Good luck to white males unless you know someone.

    Advice to Management

Excellent leaders in the company on both ends. The middle is where the company stagnates.

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vacation policy is good, Provided you can take it.

    Cons

Too long work hours including working in weekends. Benefits are not at all great. More of the cost is pushed over to the employees. They give work deadline in the evening and expect it to be done that night. Don't hire enough workers Poor management, Always in a put-out fire mode, due to unrealistic deadlines

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lot of variety of things to do. Good place for a person who is very patient and likes to set things up from scratch.

    Cons

Understaffed and overworked employees. Need to hire more people and put processes in place to make things better.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and put processes in place to make things better. Be realistic about expectations that you can do with a limited staff.

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, decent vacation policy, work life balance is respected, some really good people running the company at the top

    Cons

Promotions are given based on favoritism, communication among departments is horrendous, communication from your own manager about what is happening currently in the organization is almost non-existent

    Advice to Management

Management should listen to employees, and really take their opinions into consideration. If you say "people are our most important attribute", then your people should be treated in a way that they know you mean it.

    Pros

Diverse company with abundance of lateral and vertical opportunities; overseas opportunities if you desire; decent pay scale comparing to similar financial service companies; good work life balance.

    Cons

matrix organization created by inefficient centers of "excellence". Bureaucratic in many areas that creates unnecessary work; Lack of true vision from senior management, more block and tackling and passive reactions. Poor presentation skills throughout, very common to see powerpoint presentation as simple as Excel Copy and paste. way too much restrictions caused partially by regulations, employees are scared of saying what they think.

    Advice to Management

need to strengthen talent base and grow leaner
