    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits package is OK although fairly comparable with most large financial services organisations

    Cons

Large and fragmented organisation. I always think the acid test for how good a company is whether or not you would recommend it to family and friends. I wouldn't recommend Citi.

I worked at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Global brand with offices all over the world

    Cons

Very hierarchical in parts of the business and many incompetent managers. Many bankers and traders are holding on to what is left of the industry until they get laid off and collect a severance. The most talented and inspirational leaders have left and probably started their own firm or just retired. Some good people still remain, but there are many just greedy people that don't have any other industry to go to.

    Advice to Management

Your incentives are not properly aligned. You want the culture to change, but everyone is still heavily compensated by their bonus. They have no incentive to drive change in the organization. There is no loyalty to the firm because everyone just moves to the bank who pays them the most

    - Meritocratic culture, star performers are rewarded

    Cons

    - Not creating anything, environment mostly driven by money
    - Cutthroat culture on FICC trading floor, some big personalities
    - Bureaucracy
    - IT systems lag those of competitors

I worked at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart people, superb IT systems compared to other places I worked. Good benefits and pay is decent. It really depends on the team you work in.

    Cons

US centric, management changes very often. You see people retired in the company but that's the old days. I was there during the cost cutting time, it was tough. I felt like the cut was more directed to outside US locations.

    Advice to Management

    Value your people, promote communication

I worked at Citi full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, Global scope, variety and plenty of opportunity to progress if you are open to it and/or work hard to prove yourself.

    Cons

Very short term approach on decision making, in Technology there's too much focus on location strategy and cost savings with quality and employee loyalty suffering.

    Advice to Management

Specifically in London and other high cost locations, be honest and open with your employees regarding planned redundancies. Don't say one thing and do another.

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Global and proud of it, at Citi there are many talented people from a wide variety of countries, making it a diverse environment within which to learn.

    Cons

As with many large institutions, suffers from bureaucracy and over-burdened with regulation, making it tough to get business done.
