I worked at Citi full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance, 401k and healthcare plans. Some good managers who are really good leaders and promote growth, but category of leaders is very less as compared to number of managers in Citi.

    Cons

Offshore and consultant centric environment, promotions and full time conversions are based on relations, too many SVPs, VPs with no behavioral skills. Less opportunity if you are a tech savvy and a full time employee because all development and design related work is done by offshore. Working model is not different that any overseas consulting firm with onsite-offshore setup

    Advice to Management

Promote growth and take the career aspiration of full time employees seriously. Offshoring looks cheap but in the long run the company ends up paying money for production support due to the code quality and the overal product developed. Good trchnologists won't stay long in such environment. Cut down the bureaucracy setup.

I have been working at Citi as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not much pressure. It is pretty easy to meet expectations.

    Cons

This is not state of the art software development. Very little room for growth and not a place that listens to peoples ideas or experience, just do as your told.

Getting the tools to do the job can take a long time.

I have been working at Citi (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are smart people there. Especially among the consultants.

    Cons

They treat people like flashlight batteries. Use them and discard them, no matter how useful they have been, or how many weekends worked. Tech middle management is dominated by Indian strivers who have a streak of ruthlessness much cultivated in the financial industries.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people with respect. Give them an incentive to be loyal. Include mutal respect and decency in your stated values.
