I worked at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome employee culture of acceptance, diversity, and autonomy. Citi is a very employee oriented company that cares about you and your family. Citi provides exceptional care in all aspects of life and wellness.

    Cons

Even though I received the very rare ratings of 2 and then 1 consecutively, Citi was not able to retain me when my division closed. I feel this is a great disservice to its best employees to be unable to reassign. They told me to keep reapplying for new jobs, but the local recruiters did not know how awesome I was. They lost a highly exceptional employee to red tape.

    Advice to Management

It is a great disservice to exceptional employees to be unable to reassign them within Citi when a division closes. Instead of reapplying for new jobs, internal HR should find a way to place exceptional employees in new roles.

Worked at Citi for 20+ years - Very diverse employee population. Loved that!
Benefits were the best out there - covered from day 1 of employment

    Opportunities when performing well consistently
Training is very thorough - numerous weeks depending on business

Requirement to be tethered to the phones is difficult for some
Attendance policy is strict while in training - must be there to obtain required info
Salary positions tend to require long hours - many times on call if needed
Some travel required for upper mgmt

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Huge company name located in Buffalo
Many different back/middle office positions here.
Pay is pretty strong for the area. Good benefits. 401k matches 6%.
    Work/life balance is good
    Lots of paid time off
    Ability to work remotely
Co-workers are typically pretty relaxed, low pressure
    Pretty good promoting within
    On site fitness center

    Cons

Can be a little bit boring/slow at times
Can be a little bit overwhelming/fast at times
Front office/product/sales types from NYC/London seems to look down on you. Not everyone, but some of the cranky NYC people do
After getting used to a role, the challenges become less and less
It's a very, very large global company. At times you're just another cog in the wheel.

    Advice to Management

Keeping the employees engaged can be a tough task if the work isn't there. Find tasks/opportunities to constantly push employees to the max. I've been lucky, I've had 3-4 managers over my time here and all of them have been great.
